You lay awake, staring at the ceiling, tucked up in Jeffreys huge bed.
He was on the sofa downstairs.
You felt awful for taking the bed but he had insisted that he would be fine on the sofa.
Who has 3 bedrooms but only one bed anyway!
It had been almost an hour since you said goodnight and hugged awkwardly.
The smell of him clung to the bedsheets, and the t-shirt you wore.
You couldn't get to sleep.
Every time you closed your eyes, you were transported back to the scene on this very bed a couple of hours before.
The way he had made you feel was like nothing you had ever felt before. And you wanted more. No. You needed more.
But you couldn't.
It wouldn't be fair to him, or you, or Stewart.
You wondered whether he was laying awake thinking about you.
You wished you could take back the words you had said.
You wished he was laying beside you, just to sleep. Just to feel his warm body so close to yours.

Jeffery's POV
**********************
The fucking sofa was no comfortable at all.
But that wasn't what was keeping me awake.
She was in my bed. Alone.
I understood what she had said. And really it was my own fault. I was the one that had spat my dummy out and kicked off about that boy calling.
If only I'd let her take things further in the bedroom earlier, we would have been curled up together in those sheets.
Instead I was left with my own thoughts.
I wanted nothing more than to climb those stairs and climb in beside her.
I was sure she's be asleep by now, not tossing and turning the way I was.
Or maybe she was awake too, being alone in a strange bed must be unnerving. I hoped she was ok.
Maybe if I went to the toilet...........just so I could look in on her and check.
My feet moved before my brain could talk myself out of it.
I crept up the stairs, one shaky step at a time.
I stood on the landing, staring at my bedroom door. The door wasn't totally closed, but it wasn't open enough for me to see in.
I began to pace as I went through all the possible outcomes in my head.
No. She had asked to sleep alone. I needed to respect that.

Gracie's POV
*************************
I was sure I could hear someone on the landing outside the room. Knowing full well it could only be Jeffrey
I sat up in bed. I heard the creek of the top step. He was going back downstairs.
"Jeffrey?" I called softly. A few moments later the door the room was pushed open slightly, his body illuminated by the moonlight shining in from the window on the stairs. You hadn't seen him anything but clothed before. Yet there he was, stood in the doorway in nothing but his boxers. He took your breath away.
"Gracie" he replied "Are you ok?"
Your voice caught in your throat. He seemed to understand as he slowly walked over and perched on the edge of the bed beside you.
"Hey" you finally managed to say, fighting everything in you not to reach out and touch his bare skin. "couldn't sleep?"
He shuck his head "lots on my mind"
"Yeah" you agreed
"But it's late" he continued "we should really try to sleep" and he stood about to leave the room.
"Wait" you whispered, grabbing his arm. He looked down at your hand and then met your eyes.
You pulled your hand away, embarrassed.
"I don't want to be alone" you whispered, unable to hold his gaze as you looked down at the sheets.
"But you said..." he started
"I know what I said" you interrupted "but I can't sleep with you downstairs" he only nodded, before walking round the other side of the bed and climbing in.
He reached out and stroked your face, tucking your hair behind your ear.
"Goodnight Grace" he whispered, he let his hand fall away and rolled over, facing away from you.
"Goodnight Jeffrey" you smiled, getting comfy yourself.
You both drifted off in no time.
You woke up to the feel of someone stroking your face.
Reality hit and you were mortified. You must have rolled over in your sleep because you had your head on Jeffrey's chest, your arm and leg wrapped around him.
"Morning beautiful" he whispered, his morning voice making you bite your lip.
"Morning" you replied, rolling over "sorry about that"
"No need to apologise sweetheart" he chuckled, "its seems our unconscious minds still want each other"
"I never said I didn't want you" you defended, running your hands through your hair, trying to tame your bed head.
"I know" he smirked, "I'm just teasing"
When you were both dressed, you headed downstairs for some breakfast.
Jeffrey poured you some cereal and a cup of tea and sat across from you at the table.
You ate in silence for a few minutes until he spoke.
"Just so I'm clear" Jeffrey started "are we broken up?"
You almost choked on your cereal.
"I wouldn't go that far" you sighed "I just don't think boyfriend and girlfriend are the right labels for our relationship right now"
"huh" he replied looking thoughtful.
"Just until I find the right time to call things off with Stewart, we should keep our distance, it's just too risky" you explained
"Ok" Jeffrey replied
"Ok?" you asked "do you not have anything else to say?"
"What else do you want me say Grace?" he asked "You know how I feel about you, I asked you to be my girlfriend for god sake, am I happy that we have to cool off for a while, no I'm fucking not, do I understand why...yes I guess so. Just don't expect me to be happy about it"
You weren't sure how to respond to that. So you didn't, you just nodded and ate your cereal.
Jeffrey set off for college soon after that.
You hung around a while before walking because Neve thought you were at the doctors.
You were late for first period so decided to ditch the rest of the lesson, you weren't in the right head space for English language.
Instead you made your way to the starbucks. Just as you were paying, you heard the familiar Scottish voice.
"Hey you" Stewart beamed.
