The next day I felt lighter, having Neve to lean on and Jeffrey knowing about Lucy's threats made breathing a little easier.

We just had to get through one day at a time for now.

I still hadn't had the opportunity to speak to Jeff but he'd told Neve he wanted to see me so I was sure he was working on a narrative and location outside of Lucy's reach.

As I moved through the college corridors looking for Neve at break, an unexpected sight stopped me in my tracks.

There, near the entrance, Lucy deep in conversation with Jeffrey. I hesitated, hidden in the shadows, observing their exchange. Lucy's words dripped with calculated charm, but I knew Jeffrey well enough to determine that even though he looked captivated by Lucy's words, that was just and act and his mind was elsewhere.

Just as Lucy turned away to greet someone passing by, Jeffrey's eyes met mine, and he winked subtly-a silent reassurance that our secrets remained intact. The flicker of connection, unseen by Lucy, felt like a victory. But it also left me with longing for Jeffrey and jealousy of their exchange. We would never be able to be seen together in the open like that.

"Hey what are you.....oh" Neve answered her own question as she spotted the two of them a little too close. "Come on let's go get coffee" she dragged me away before Lucy could notice we were there.

As Neve dragged me away, hoping to escape the charade in front of us, we found ourselves in the campus coffee shop, our safe space.

However, once again thag safe space was invaded as Lucy and Jeffrey joined the queue together.

Neve and I secured a corner table, attempting to immerse ourselves in normalcy amidst the brewing tension.

Just as we settled into our conversation, Lucy walked over, her eyes lit up with delight as she spotted us. Jeffrey hung back uncomfortably.

"Grace, lovely to see you again. Quick question, what do you think of my dress?"

The question hung in the air, a thinly veiled challenge. Jeffrey maintained a composed demeanor, not wanting Lucy to pick up on the fact both he and Neve knew her game. But his eyes betrayed a flicker of concern.

I mustered a smile, concealing my discomfort. "Lovely choice, Lucy. Very... flattering." I'd like to say I was lying.....but it clung to every curve and she looked incredible as always.

Neve interjected with forced cheerfulness, "Love the colour, where did you get it?"

Lucy's response was nonchalant, "Oh, just found it in the back of my wardrobe, never worn"

As they exchanged pleasantries, my mind raced with the severity of our situation. The coffee shop, once a haven, now felt like a battleground of hidden emotions and unspoken truths.

The air in the coffee shop hung heavy with unspoken tension as Lucy and Jeffrey took their coffee's to go and left.

Neve leaned in with a sympathetic gaze, breaking the silence that had settled over our table.

"Grace, are you alright?" Neve's concern was evident as she reached for my hand.

I sighed, the weight of the situation pressing on me.

"I don't know, Neve. It's getting harder to keep this hidden. I thought that now that Jeffrey knew about her threats it would get easier, but somehow it hurts more seeing him go along with her scheme"

Neve's expression mirrored my worry, but her determination remained unyielding.

"You can't let her win, Grace. We need a plan to get you and Jeffrey alone to talk this through" she advised

"How though Neve" I groaned defeated "she knows where we both live, I wouldn't put it past her to follow his car! It's hopeless"

"You're right" Neve sighed, looking equally doubtful, but suddenly her face changed into a smirk as she caught sight of something behind me "But it's not hopeless" she added, pointing behind me, I turned to look at the poster on the wall advertising the photography exhibition taking place after college on Friday. Everyone in my class was featured and it was a big event.

"That's here in the college" I told her confused "how is that going to help us get away from her when she will be attending?" I asked confused,

"It's genius!" Neve giggled excitedly, "you'll meet right under her nose, she won't expect you to be so brasen"

"She'll be attached to Jeff all night" I told her "there's no way she will let him out of her sight"

"Let me worry about that" Neve assured me "Friday night! It's a date!"

"You're far too excited about this" I giggled as her glee

"I always wanted to be a secret agent" she grinned, referring to our shared love of James Bond.

I just rolled my eyes and laughed with her.

As the college day drew to a close I met Neve in reception. She was stood staring at anothet poster advertising the exhibition.

"Hey," I greeted, my voice breaking her concentration. She jumped slightly, a small gasp escaping her lips. "Are you okay?" I asked, glancing at the poster that seemed to hold her attention."Yeah, just plotting," she giggled, her eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint.

"Hey, girls," the sweet Scottish accent interrupted. We turned to see Stewart, approach with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Stewart," we both greeted in unison."Are you showcasing in this?" he asked, his eyes scanning the poster. I nodded.

"Are you coming?" Neve asked, her excitement contagious.

"Wouldn't miss it," he smiled. "I always loved Grace's work, and it's good to support a friend."

"Thanks, Stewart, I appreciate it," I blushed, grateful for the encouragement and the fact he acknowledged we were just friends now.

As the three of us chatted, discussing the details of the exhibition, I could almost hear the cogs turning in Neves head as she put her plan together, the mischevious glint in her eye grew as she looked between me, Stewart and the poster.

What on earth was she planning?
