***************Jeffrey's POV**********************
I couldn't understand why Grace was ignoring me.
I thought back to the last time we'd seen each other. It had ended on goof terms right?
I nearly took her virginity for gods sake.
Was she hurting that I had stopped?
Had I said or done something else to upset her?
Had she realised Stewart was the better option?
All those questions flooded my mind as she mouthed the words 'I'm sorry'
Sorry for what!? What was going on!
I continued to stare at her through the window, but she didn't glance back.
I headed back to my room, hurt and confused.
I'd been sat for a while, lost in my thoughts when the door opened.
My stomach fluttered with hope that Grace had come to explain her behaviour, her lesson should be finished round about now.
No such luck. In fact, the complete opposite.
It was Lucy.
"Hi Jeff" she beamed.
I rolled my eyes and busied myself on my computer.
"Don't be moody" she giggled "Let me buy you a coffee?"
This woman did not give up. But coffee did sound appealing, and the part of me that was hurt by Grace's ignorance, the petty part of me, kind of liked the idea of hurting her back.
"Sure" I sighed "I could use a caffeine hit. Let me send this email and I'll meet you down there", Lucy looked surprised but smiled and nodded, leaving me to finish an email that didn't actually exist, I just didn't want to seem too available. Because I wasn't.
As I walked into Starbucks, my heart sunk. Grace was sat in there, and even though the petty side of me wanted to hurt her back, I knew no good would come of her seeing me with Lucy. But I reluctantly joined her in the queue anyway.
***************Grace's POV*****************
Neve met me out of class and I followed her silently to Starbucks for our lunch. I could still see Jeff's confused beautiful face. He looked so hurt that I had blatantly ignored him, I could have cried.
I sniffed back tears and ordered my coffee, taking a seat next to Neve at our usual table in the corner, it had the best view of the rest of the tables. We got to be nosey and people watch, our favourite pass time. Although I wasn't feeling it and Neve noticed.
"Are you okay?" she asked
"I've been better" I sighed, and she followed my gaze as I watched Lucy walk past, smirking at me as she did.
"You're not still letting her get to you" Neve groaned,
"She turned up at my house just to cause trouble Neve" I snapped,
"Jesus okay I get it" she replied defensively.
"Sorry" I apologised "She's got under my skin. I shouldn't take it out on you"
"It's fine" she sighed "I didn't realise it had upset you so much, and it's kind of my job as your best friend to be your punching bag"
This made me giggle. But it was short lived as Lucy reappeared and joined the queue.
"She's got a very high opinion of herself hasn't she" Neve observed, making me almost spit my coffee out as I noticed them shooting daggers at each other. Lucy then raised an eyebrow at me and I remembered her threat of ruining my friendship with Neve.
"Do you want to come to mine after college?" I asked "I don't really want to go home alone for my mum to give me grief again, I'll be safe if you're there"
"Of course" she giggled "It's been a while since we had a sleepover, shall I pick some stuff up on the way?"
"Yeah I could definitely use a sleepover" I smiled, knowing I needed to come clean to Neve to remove any other leverage Lucy had over me.
I didn't head what Neve said next because Jeff walked in and our eyes locked as he moved to stand beside Lucy. Now it was my turn to look hurt, he couldn't hold my gaze and turned his attention to Lucy.
"Oh Jeff" she squealed, too loud for a private conversation, she wanted me to hear "I was starting to think you'd stood me up" Jeffrey blushed and fidgeted awkwardly.
"The coffee was too appealing" he replied, disappointment flashed across he face but only for a second before she glanced at me and regained her composure. Placing a possessive hand on his chest.
"What can I get you?" she asked him, looking up at him through her impossibly long eyelashes,
"Just a cappuccino please" he replied, pulling her hand from his shirt, ignoring the double meaning in her question.
"Why don't you grab a table and I'll bring them over?" She asked, undeterred by his brush off.
"We're sitting in?" He asked
"I thought it would be nice for a change" she smiled, again glancing at me, she was torturing me, she wanted me to see them sat together, to witness the exchange between them.
"Okay" he sighed, avoiding my eye contact as he sat at a table with his back to me.
"Earth to Grace" Neve, broke into my thoughts
"Sorry" I sighed "I was in a world of my own"
"I can see that" she giggled "stop ogling your Tutor and listen to your bestie"
"I wasn't...." I tried to deny but she gave me a knowing look. I gave her my full attention after that, but I did notice the way Lucy's hands ran across Jeffrey's shoulder after she'd placed the tray on the table and walked around him to get to her seat. I also noticed the way his shoulders tensed at her touch.
Even seeing him reject her advances, it hurt that he had agreed to socialise with her, after everything. But I couldn't be mad, not after the way I'd behaved today.
"So I'll meet you after last lesson?" Neve asked
"I have photography and I think it's a practical so I'll meet you at your car" I told her
"Okay" she smiled and led the way out of the coffee shop. We had to pass their table.
"Hi Grace" Lucy smirked
"Lucy" I replied reluctantly, I didn't want to give here any ammunition, I glanced across the table "Jeff" I greeted, so I didn't appear rude to people around us.
"Grace" he managed, but his voice was uncertain, I could see the questions floating in his hazel pools, hear it in the tremble of his voice and had to look away as I scurried after Neve.
