"Hi Stewart" you smiled back, riddled with guilt.
"Wanna sit?" he asked, gesturing to a table
"Sure" you agreed and sat opposite him.
"So I tried to call last night" he said
"Yeah sorry I was with my grandad and completely forgot to call you back" you lied,
"No worries" he smiled "as long as you're ok"
"I am" you lied again
"Do you want to do something tonight?" he asked, and at that moment Jeffrey joined the queue for coffee.
"I can't tonight I'm sorry" you replied "I blew Neve off last night so I should probably hang with her" that wasn't a lie. You could feel Jeffrey's eyes boaring into you.
"Ok not a problem" he smiled, god he was far too nice for the way you had bee treating him. This boy deserved so much better. "Sort a date out soon though yeah?"
"Sure" you smiled "I'll let you know"
"Jeff!" you heard from across the cafe, it was Lucy, the tutor you had caught in Jeffrey's office. She strutted over and you watched as Jeffrey watched her, a smirk on his face. "Get me a latte hun I need to speak to you in my office" as she spoke he hand lingered on his arm, you tensed in jealous rage.
"Yeah sure" he smiled, "I'll see you in there" as she walked away he glanced over and his eyes locked with yours, a devious glint in his eye. He was loving making you feel the same way he was feeling watching you with Stewart.
"I'm just going to grab some sugar" you told Stewart, Jeffrey was stood waiting for his drinks, the station with the sugar was behind him, you stood with your back to him.
"That looks cosy" he said under his breath,
"I hope Lucy enjoys her coffee" you replied, unable to hide the bitter tone in your voice.
The bell rang for second period, you had photography. Hopefully your favourite subject would improve your mood.
How wrong could you be.
You stopped dead in your tracks as you entered the room. Stood at the front of the class was Lucy.
"Oh sorry has my session moved rooms?" you asked,
"No no" Lucy smiled "I'm covering this session" Brilliant! you thought. You just nodded and took your seat.
She was absolutely stunning. You suddenly felt very self conscious. Why would a man like Jeffrey, even look at someone like you, when he could have a woman like her.
You got on with editing your photos and zoned out of what was going on around you. Lucy was walking round looking at everyone's work and offering improvements.
Eventually she made it to your desk.
"These are interesting" she commented, flicking through the photos in your portfolio.
"They're a working progress" you replied,
"It's not an avenue I would have gone down myself for this particular brief" she continued,
"Well I'm not you am I" you snapped,
"No need to be defensive" she smiled "I'm just giving an impartial opinion"
"No one asked you to" you snapped again,
"I think you need to change your tone and show some respect young lady" she scolded
"Respect is earnt" you hissed "and you definitely haven't done anything to earn mine"
"Get out!" she commanded "I wont be spoken to like that" you grabbed your stuff and stormed out of the room.
You knew you shouldn't have reacted like that, but you couldn't bring yourself to be nice to her. Not when she was after your man. Your man? Could you even claim that anymore.
There were only 20 minutes left before your next session. You sat on a window seat in a 3rd floor corridor and stared out at nothing in particular.
"Grace?" you hadn't heard him approach until he said your name, making you jump.
"What are you doing here?" you replied "we said we would keep our distance Jeffery"
"I know" he sighed "but I'm your PC, which means when you get kicked out of a lesson, I get a phone call to go check on you"
"Fuck" you sighed "you know about that then"
"Yes I know about it" he exclaimed "Grace come on that's not like you"
"Yeah well I'm not exactly feeling myself today" you laughed,
"You know you have to apologise to Lucy right?" He asked "she didn't deserve that attitude"
"Are you taking her side?!" you hissed, eyes filling with tears. He looked as if he was going to comfort you, then glanced up at the camera and changed his mind.
"I'm not taking anyone's side" he whispered "I'm just doing my job. You know the job that you're so desperate for me to keep"
"She was being a bitch" you snapped
"She was giving you advise" he sighed
"Of course you would defend her" you laughed, a tear streaming down your face.
"Is this all because I bought her a coffee?" he asked, making out like you were over reacting.
"You know this isn't just about a coffee" you snapped,
"Grace there is nothing between me and Lucy" he sighed, running a hand over his face.
"Why not?" you asked "She's stunning, she's successful, she's your age, why wouldn't you want someone like that"
"Grace stop it you're being ridiculous" he groaned,
"You loved every minute of me watching the two of you in starbucks" you snapped
"Grace you're being unfair" he sighed,
"Am I?" you replied "What happened in her office Jeffrey"
"Are you accusing me of something?" he asked, raising his voice, he was mad now.
"I saw how you were alone with her in your room" you shot back,
"I'm not listening to this" he scoffed and began to walk away.
"Go on walk away" you called "You're good at that"
"Carry on pushing me away Grace" he called without looking back "See what happens"
As soon as he was out of sight the tears began to fall. What an absolute mess. What were you doing. How had you gone from waking up snuggled into his chest to accusing him of all sorts. Your head was mashed. You needed to sort yourself out.
You skipped your next lesson too. But Jeffrey didn't come looking.
You met Neve out of her lesson.
"Hey" she greeted, giving you a hug.
"Hey, how's your day going?" you asked,
"Boring as always" she laughed.
"Come on lets get some comfort food" you replied "I need it"
