Now entering the cabin Natalie heads into the kitchen placing the groceries at the counter, she lets out a big sigh contemplating every single decision she had made in her life. Natalie was aware that the incidents were scarring Everett, Alice, and herself but Missy has suffered more than they could ever imagine. Natalie also knew that Missy is of age and she's capable of living by herself, but no matter how much she denies it, she treats her like one of her own and is concerned about her health and safety out in the world. Melissa was acting different lately and Natalie wanted to help her, but they weren't as close as she thought they were.
Missy wheels herself out of her bedroom, rolling into the common room. She parks her wheelchair next to the couch as she had previously painted colorful stripes on her chair, the pattern appeared to be inspired by 70s funk style. Missy took a sip from a cold hot chocolate Natalie offered her a day before, she enjoyed the taste of the drink as she stared into the empty fireplace.
Natalie took a deep breath sitting on the couch next to Missy, "Hey." She expressed as she picked up the mug and placed it on the table.
"Hi." Missy replied with dull emotion not even looking at Natalie.
"You wanna come to market with me?" Natalie asked without the intention of letting her have a choice, "I forgot to buy vegetables for your favorite soup."
The girl glanced at Natalie stating, "And you want me to do what?"
"Wanna come with me?" Natalie said while fidgeting the mug worriedly, "I mean, it's been quite a while ever since you went out the yard."
"Sure." Missy stated, "Natalie I understand your concern for me, I'm just expressing my feelings through art now, I wish you comprehend that."
Natalie scoffed, "What's with the vocabulary?"
"Quit it" Missy threatened the woman with her stubbornness, "Or else I'll have to reconsider my choice."
Natalie quickly stands and snatches the keys from the counter, "Okay fine, were leaving in five."
The two women head into the accessible jeep the ramp lowered so Missy could wheel herself in just fine while Natalie still worried about her safety, keeping her hands on her back at all times. Missy brought the ramp back in, sealing the door shut. Natalie jumped into the driver's seat, and fixed the mirror, looking at Melissa feeling sad and not disappointed at all.
As they made their way across the narrow roads in the Pennsylvanian mountains, the only thing keeping them from falling was the fences separating the endless cliff from the pavement. As the wavy highway was over they finally got to a straight road that was completely surrounded by native flora such as pinewood and others. The taiga forest of Wellsboro led into the mountain rage of the Appalachian Mountains not too far from their cabin.
The peacefulness of the ride would be soon interrupted by a truck that entered the road in an entry coming from a small factory on the side of the road. Natalie was not the most patient driver, already angered by the one-handed driver.
Not too far ahead from them, a curious single fully grown Homolocephale peaked out of the bushes, it was displaced and taken from its herd only successfully escaping from traders a few days ago. The creature slowly took a step into the pavement spotting a fern growing from a crack on the road, the small herbivore was starving and the only appropriate food for its diet was that herb, but things wouldn't end peacefully for the specimen.
The racing truck coming from the factory, unfortunately, didn't see the animal as it was feeding from the plant. The driver runner over the dinosaur ramming it to the ground, splattering blood all over the bumper without his notice. Natalie was riding at an appropriate speed, and noticed the corpse on the floor, soon parking the car sideways.
She jumped out of the vehicle leaving Missy curious, "Holy shit." Natalie expressed as she saw the poor Homolocephale struggling to survive, "What did he do to you."
The Homolocephale looked at Natalie with pain in its eyes it was only seconds before it died out. Missy rolled out of the car stopping next to them, "Oh my god."
Natalie began caressing the dinosaur comforting it in its final moments, "It's okay, rest baby rest." Tears flowed off her eyes looking back at Missy in sadness.
Missy placed her hand on Natalie's shoulder as a way to show remorse, the creature died at that very moment. Natalie gasped for air sobbing louder than before, she stood up and hugged Missy tightly, the hug was responded with a softer grip. The two carry the animal to the grass letting nature work one last time, serving its purpose.
