A/N: A photo of Bear Island
Darius POV
What a revelation...Hawkes' brother...the very spitting image of his sibling stood, trembling, right before our eyes. I shook my head disbelievingly, my eyes blurry at the sight of this man...this symbol of hatred and malice that has plagued me.
"I never pegged you for a spy, Pavel...Why?" I asked him.
"Save the interrogation for later, D. We've got to blow this joint before it caves down on our heads!" Bry threw a glance my way, his eyes indicating the instability of the structure we were in, as the explosions continued.
Apparently, the lab was set to self-destruct if its' systems were compromised, something that Zack had failed to make note of. We had little time to gather every scrap of evidence to study before the whole damn thing imploded.
Luckily, our AIs, managed to get the last bit of evidence from the labs below us, keeping all the virus contained securely in transportable vessels which they carried with them. They were out safely, and it was up to us to carry the rest of the immobilized personnel out before it all caved in.
Dante was ready for this, using all the available energy within him, he had managed to move us out of the lab before it completely fell apart, piece by piece, as the explosions ripped it apart.
I looked around, counting heads of our party when it suddenly occurred to me that Damien was missing. I tried not to panic, because I knew how cautious my son was, but this was extremely unnerving as I held Dante's gaze...and then I felt it...the pang of fear engaging every single cell of my body as Dante shook his head from side to side, not feeling Damien's energy anywhere.
"Dante...Dante, what's going on?" I turned to my future son-in-law.
"I can't feel him...I can't sense where he is...I'm going in..." He turned on his heel to a pile of rubble, which was once the lab.
I nodded, heavily disguising my angst, as I had to keep the group together while our pick-up was negotiating the raging seas to get to us.
In the basement, two levels below ground:
Damien POV
"Are you all okay? Keep talking...so I can hear you..." I choked out, sputtering as I dusted off the plaster from my uniform. It was quite dark initially, but I tapped my mag-lite, and the beam was powerful enough to show me where exactly my location was. I found myself in the basement area with some examination rooms, where some experimentation had taken place on human specimens - children to be exact.
I was about to radio my discovery when the entire bottom section of the floor fell in, taking us down with it. Luckily, we were situated in an air pocket of sorts, with enough oxygen to survive until rescue was made available.
The only problem was, I was pinned underneath one of the beams that had fallen, and could barely move a muscle. I was not even aware of the extent of the damage upon my body, until I felt a bit of blood seeping from under me.
"Crap...I'm injured. If I can only move my arm enough to hit the com-link..." I muttered to myself. I shifted my arm free, enough to raise it across my chest to hit the damn thing, and it lit up 'red' which meant that it was on.
"Dante...Dad...anybody...can you hear me? I'm in the basement below. Please send help as there's a bunch of kids down here with me..." I screeched out, as I began choking on my own blood.
"Keep talking Damien...I've got you...I'm coming..." Dante responded.
"Thank God...hurry...not much time..." I sputtered.
