Damien POV

Once the funeral was over, we all gathered back at the mansion where Alma's entire staff had prepared some snacks and tea for all of us. It had been a long, eventful and tiring day. We helped Alma to her room, making sure that she would get enough rest.

Nik was a tad better, and was in the salon with us having tea, while Alonso and Mick chatted by the fireplace. I came over, in a show of support and promptly sat down beside Nik, throwing an arm around him.

"Would you like some more biscuits? Tea perhaps?" I asked, trying to cheer him up.

"No, I'm fine, thanks. I know what you're trying to do Damien, and I appreciate it very much. But it won't change the fact that he's not here because of me..." He sighed heavily, staring into his cup... and then it started...the silent tears began to flow, and Nik drew an angry fist to his cheek in an attempt to brush them away.

I pulled out my hanky immediately, offering it to him instantly. He dabbed his eyes furiously, as a cold shudder went through him.

"Nik, stop this. You had no choice..." My father intervened upon hearing Nik's blatant statement of the brutal truth.

I shifted over, allowing my father to sit next to Nik. "Look at me, son" He ordered, removing his dark glasses for the very first time today. I was beleaguered by his appearance, bleary-eyed and sporting dark circles underneath them.

"I loved your father like a brother, and he loved ALL of you" He stressed the word 'ALL', casting an eye over Alonso who now gazed upon us.

"He made some mistakes and he paid dearly for them, but it was out of his love for you. Nik, you did what you thought was right and your father knew that he would pay a heavy price one day...It is time to forgive him, and to forgive yourself, son" My father gently lay a hand upon Nik's shoulder as he sighed deeply.

"That's easy for you to say...But how is it possible to forgive someone even after they've betrayed you, ruined your life and made you a pawn for destruction?" Alonso spoke up, clearly riled up by my father's words.

"You may have pulled the trigger, Nik but I bore the brunt of all that shit. I was the one they experimented with. I was the one they trained to be an assassin, remember? And he did nothing...NOTHING...TO STOP IT!" Alonso, smashed his fist against the adjacent wall.

"Calm down, Alonso. You're getting treated for it and you're improving. The past is in the past. Leave it there..." Felix replied, startled by Alonso who abruptly turned away from all of us. "Where are you going?"

"Out...for a walk...I need some air..." Alonso suddenly made a move for the door.

"I'll come with you..." Felix offered.

"No, I need some time...alone...I'll be okay...I promise..." He nodded, as he made his way out the door.

"Why do I have this feeling that this is just the beginning of something else?" Commander Bryant commented dryly.
