He's broken because when he was talking to Mei he said, "I know you'll stop at nothing to save my parents."
He was relying on m.k and Mei NEVER giving up. When m.k said, "No." He thought for that instant that m.k was giving up. That hope was truly gone
And what is worse, He thought for just that instant, he was about to lose everything. And since HE created the fire, HE released the lady bone demon, that it was all HIS fault.
