Tears slipped down your cheeks as you cried. You tugged your knees close to your chest in an attempt to feel some type of warmth. The cave was chilly to say the least. Their insults echoed through your mind making calming your cries all the more difficult.

"Ew she's such a freak."

"You can't even control it properly."

"She's a cursed child. Be rid of her."

So you were a shape shifter only limited to the animals of the zodiac. What was so bad about that? It wasn't as though you hurt anybody with your powers. You even thought they were kinda cool. Well, you had you didn't quite enjoy them anymore.

In your anxiety you summoned your monkey tail and ears. The insult added to your injury and you started to cry harder.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" A low voice echoed through the cave making you gasp and look up.

A tan monkey stood over you bent at the waist. His arms were folded behind him and a small smile tugged at his lips.

"Heya, she's a cute one." He grinned as a few monkeys peaked out of the crevices and rocks. They chirped and chittered. "Heh, they think we should keep you." He chuckled kneeling next to you.

You wiped at the tears looking away.

"That would be a mistake."

"Oh?"

"I'm cursed." You mumbled resting your head on your knees.

"Hey! What a coincidence!" The monkey leaned around you with a friendly smile. "Me too."

You sniffled some and looked up at him.

"What do you mean?"

The monkey shrugged.

"Oh ya know the usual, cursed with immortality, the curse of being irresistible, and the jade emperor curses my name constantly." He listed on his fingers.

A small smile pulled at your lips.

"None of those sound like curses."

The monkey rose an eyebrow at you.

"Well that's funny."

"What's funny?"

The monkey leaned a little closer.

"If you ask me, someone as pretty as you doesn't seem cursed either."

A heat burned through your cheeks and you looked away. The butterflies in your stomach changed your tail to that of a dragon.

You flinched but the monkey leaned around you his eyes growing wide.

"Woah! You can shape shift. That's awesome!"

You smiled.

"You mean it?"

The monkey nodded.

"What else can you do?"

You shifted into tiger, then back to a human.

The monkey grinned.

"How many animals can you change into?"

You played with your hands.

"Only twelve. The animals of the zodiac to be precise."

The monkey touched a hand to his chin.

"But it seemed involuntary with your tail earlier."

You nodded.

"I can't control it fully. I get nervous and just-" you made a motion with your hands. "Change."

The monkey hummed.

"What's your name, shape shifter?"

"Y/n." You replied timidly.

"Nice to meet cha."

You waited for a moment, but he seemed to be lost and thought.

"What's your name?"

The monkey looked up with an almost shocked expression.

"You don't know?"

"No?" You questioned feeling anxious all the sudden.

The monkey didn't seem to mind though. He simply shot out his hand towards you.

"I'm the monkey king."

You hesitated recalling how mother's would tug their children away from you, and your own family refused to touch you.

"Y/n," Monkey King spoke shattering your thoughts. "I won't bite, promise."

This urged a smile and you shook his hand.

"If you want I can teach you how to use your ability." He offered.

You gasped.

"Really?!"

He nodded.

"Sure. You can come from your village once a day."

The mention of your village stole your excitement and you looked down.

"Uh yeah."

"What's the matter?"

You rubbed your arms.

"I ran away." You murmured your tail wrapping around your leg.

"Oh."

You only nodded.

"Well, then I guess they had the right idea."

You jumped slightly as monkey tail curled around your waist.

"Guess we'll have to keep you."
