THIS WAS POSSIBLY THE BEST CHRISTMAS SERENA COULD'VE ASKED FOR. She got the best gift possible, she had hung out with the best family possible, and she finally realized that she has feelings for James Potter. It had only taken her six years to realize because of her stubbornness and hatred for the extroverted boy, but she finally got there.
Serena went up to her room after opening up the presents, trying to figure her feelings. She was a bit irritated at the boy before he had given her the best present ever and now, she was feeling extremely attracted to him. She was getting whiplash from her emotions at this point. She was trying to figure it what she needed to do because if she didn't have a plan, she knew her feelings were going to consume her to the point of blowing up.
She laid on her bed and started thinking of ways to confront her feelings. She didn't want to embarrass herself by telling him because she honestly didn't know if James shared her feelings, and if he didn't, it would make their friendship awkward and she didn't want that. She didn't want to tell him, but the more she thought about it, the more she realized there was no other way to "confront" her feelings without confronting James himself.
She groaned and stood up in her bed. She had no clue about what she was going to do; how was she supposed to tell James how she felt about him when she couldn't even understand it herself?
Someone knocked on her door. She groaned inwardly before saying rather quietly, "Come in."
Mrs. Potter came in with a grin. "Hi, Serena. Did you enjoy this Christmas?"
Serena nodded with a small smile. "It was one of the best Christmases I've ever had. Thank you and Mr. Potter so much for having me."
Mrs. Potter felt something was bothering Serena. "No need, it was out pleasure." She debated whether or not bring it up. "Is something bothering you, dear?"
Serena shook her head. "Nope, just really tired."
"You can always talk to me, you know that, right?"
She sighed. Maybe she should tell her. "Well, me and James..."
Mrs. Potter smiled inwardly, she knew it had something to do with her mischievous son.
"I think I like him." Mrs. Potter gave Serena a look. She sighed and closed her eyes. "No, I know I like him. But I just don't want to make it awkward if he doesn't like me back, or if he does, will it even work? Will it ruin the group with me and James being together? I mean, that's definitely wishful thinking because James probably does-"
Mrs. Potter couldn't bare listening to Serena talk anymore. She tutted. "Serena you are overthinking it. Way too much. You're making my head hurt."
"How do you think I feel?"
Mrs. Potter shook her head. "Serena, he likes you back. If you don't confess, you're going to regret it in a couple months, trust me."
She was silent for a moment, letting her words marinate in her mind. She was right, she needs to take risks. "Alright, Mrs. Potter, you're right."
Mrs. Potter nodded, "I know, darling."
.
James was sitting on the porch, a blanket on his lap and a hot cocoa in his hand. He, like Serena, was overthinking everything. He did not know to even confess, and if he did, will it ruin the group dynamic if she liked him back?
Christmas day was supposed to be the time where he spends it with his family, but he can't get Serena out of his mind. He can hear Remus and Sirius shout in laughter while playing cards with his parents. He wanted to play as well, but he needed to clear his mind and what's better than staring at the beautiful winter sky with a hot cup of peppermint hot cocoa.
