THE FRASERS WERE AN INTERESTING FAMILY considering that they weren't really a family - it was more of a duo. Not that Serena minded being a father-daughter duo; she liked having a small-knit 'family.' Her grandmother rarely talked to Serena - but she still cared for her. Her grandmother on her dad's side was the only extended family she had. Her mother's family doesn't acknowledge her or father, for reason though; their daughter left Serena's dad when she a child. Serena's dad also grew up in a single-parent household, I guess you could say single-parents runs in the family.

Her mother had left her once she realized her daughter was a wizard - because, of course, she herself was a wizard. She wanted to distance herself from the Wizarding World as much as possible. No one really knew why. Her father tried to make Serena to forget her mother, but it never really worked because it was her mother. No one could just simply forget their mother.

On her first day at Hogwarts, she seated next to a loud, obnoxious boy by the name of James Potter. She actually found him quite entertaining, and liked the boy's company. He talked non-stop about how excited he was for school, and he didn't seem to mind that Serena didn't reply. He talked about quidditch, and how fun his summer was. He didn't ask about her summer, or who she even was, but she didn't mind. It was endearing hearing him talking about his hobbies and things he liked. She thought he was going to be her first friend at Hogwarts - that was until she got into the Ravenclaw house.

He made fun of her - it hurt her more than he intended. When he thought about what he said, like his mother taught him to do - he apologized endlessly but it did nothing but waste his breathe. She ignored his existence for a while, befriending a nice girl by the name of Lily Evans. They bonded over their similar Muggle childhoods, which confused some of the others.  She befriended a lot of people, actually.

Serena was a very friendly girl, so it wasn't hard for her to be friends with people. She was quite popular herself, but she never went near James and his crew for the simple reason she didn't like him . . . and she liked holding grudges. She didn't give him any care or time of day - and neither did he . . . for the most part.

James tried to make the girl laugh which he fails miserably every time. He never understood why he just disliked him, because how could anyone hate him?! It soon became a game to James. How could I annoy her?

In a way, it was a game to James. He thought they were only kidding. But for Serena, she genuinely disliked him. Everyone knew how much they hated each other, and they knew that it could only be ended with one of them dead or them snagging up in a closet after a heated argument.

Serena did have a lot of friends - but for the most part, her circle was very small consisting of Marlene Mckinnon, and Lily Evans.

"As we discussed last lesson, we will be having projects with parents. And no, Mr. Black, we may not pick them, last time was a disastrous. I will be picking the partners," Professor Caswell explains, putting her hands behind her back. She had been the new Muggle Studies for about a few months. The last teacher got fired for an unknown reason. Professor Caswell was a nice young wizard, perfect for the new open spot at Hogwarts. Sirius scoffed at her statement, earning a glare from the professor. "Now, now, don't you kids worry. They'll be good partners, I promise," she winked at everyone, scattered laughter across the classroom.

Serena liked the professor - she was nice, caring, and very smart. Caswell was her favorite for many reasons. But she had an awful habit of paring Potter and Serena together. For the first few weeks of her working at Hogwarts, she had seating arrangements where Serena was next to James. It was horrible. So, so horrible. "Okay, everyone take out some parchment. I'll announce your partner, and you will write it down."

"Dirk and Arrow," Professor Caswell started, as she went down her list of pairs.

"Mary and Aris,"

"Evan and Emma,"

"Sirius and Peter," Sirius shot his friend a quick smirk, before returning his attention back to the professor.

"Antonin and Nile,"

"Serena and-" she paused, looking down at the parchment.

Not James, Not James, anyone but James. She shut her eyes, crossing her fingers dramatically.

"Oh! And James Potter," Professor Caswell shot James and Serena a quick smile, before continuing. Serena's jaw dropped to the floor. Was the professor wishing for her death? Serena grumbled quietly. Her and James made eye contact for a moment. He smiled sweetly, as she turned away. Oh Fuck.
