Gilbert placed spies on Jimmy and me, then doubled the guards at the border to make sure no one went in or out, and to report to him immediately any suspicious movement.

"You have to look for the princess. Gilbert will not relent until he finds her. You have to find her first Mike."

"I need to talk to mother first. I will see you at the feast tonight." Jimmy tapped me on the shoulder and departed as I went to my mother.

Honestly, I don't know what the mother would say or what she might ask. I knew she hated it whenever I had anything to do with Gilbert's sons. Sometimes I wonder why Gilbert has a seat among the elders: I know my mother could not stand him, and so does everyone but every time Mother would say they cannot just remove him without cause.

My mother and I were very close, Of course, we don't always see eye to eye on everything, for example; I do not want to marry Cara Benedict, and I don't understand why my mother wants me to. She was not my idea of a woman, she was a good woman there was no doubt about that, but she was the one I wanted, but because she comes from a good family and for some strange reason I don't understand, she and my mother were close... "Seat. Down." she commanded in her 'you don't have a choice' voice.

Reluctantly I sat down next to her.

"Gilbert wants my place and he will not rest until he turns the whole town against me.
      Now, I will only ask you this one time and you should do well to tell me the truth; who is this woman? "

"I don't know mother. All I knew was Gilbert's sons were attacking her, Jimmy and I intervened and set the girl free, but knowing Gilbert's sons; I knew they would follow her, so I beat them to it.

"I followed her quietly to the forest of Assetin. I can tell she is a stranger because only a fool goes into these woods alone, especially on a day like today.
