Looking up to the clouds at the heavy thunder and lightning appearing in the sky.
They will be here soon.
I kept walking towards the border. I don't know how far I could go before Joel catches up with me. Even though hat was one of our greatest warriors, I wasn't afraid of him, I used to be but not anymore: the magic that was flowing through me from the ring was more than I could explain... I felt invisible, not afraid of anything, and I could sense on the inside of me how the power from the ring was becoming one with me.
I know what to do in any given situation, The spells running through my mind per second were something I never used nor learned before. That was why I was running from Joel.
This was a man I once loved, and planning to spend the rest of my days with him. The power running through my veins was so powerful that I was afraid I would not be able to control it. I might hate him for what he had done, but I don't want to kill him... I don't want to kill anyone. Everyone he would be coming with are people I knew very well, and I know the rule: if I didn't go with them, they must kill me, but whatever happened, they must not return without me or the ring.
Looking from far away, I saw some sparkles of light, Border. As I was moving closer, I could hear the men's voices and quickly hid behind a tree. But they were still further away I could not make out how many they were or what they were saying.
I raised my arm and turned the ring toward their direction, "Aliac bumbete atua." I made an incantation to slow down the movement of the wind and quiet everything around me, including the birds and every creature in the woods, leaving only the voices of the men at the border, in other to hear what they were saying
"The festival is on and we are here waiting for what we do not know." said one of the guards.
"Your job is not to know, your job is to find the witch." another replied.
"What witch? There haven't been any witches in this town for over a century, why now when someone finally kicks Gilbert sons ass. How many people have those bastards done the same to, and no one can dare to blink an eyebrow?"
They are waiting for me? I whispered and leaned my back to the tree. "How irritating can humans be? Ugh!" I groaned. " I need to get out of here now, and I don't want to hurt this man. They have done no wrong to me..."
I could sense someone was behind me, even thou the person tried to move quietly, but I held my ground without turning back, I closed my eyes to smell the scent; letting out a frustrated breath, It's you again.
"Then don't hurt them," he said.
Tilted my head in annoyance. Why does he keep following me? And turned around with my eyebrows raised. "Why do you keep following me? " My voice was sharp and husky.
"I don't know, how about you tell me! "
"Tell you what? " Now this is getting me more irritated, does this child not realize am trying to save his life... Does he want to die that badly?
"Who are you?" he questioned, "and what are you doing here?" even thou it was a question, his sharp tone sounded like a command. "Because one thing has been certain; you are not from around here,"
"Well, my dear sire, you're right on that front, and If you had stopped following me, I would been out of here — your town is not that interesting. Believe me."
"Do you even have any idea what you have done?"
Tilted my head in question, "What have I done? "
"What you did earlier today has never been done by any woman in this town before. No woman has ever raised a hand on a man before, not talk of wounded them the way you did. The whole town is looking for you"
I scoffed softly. They don't have to raise their hand on a man to wound them. "The whole town or just one man? "
"How do you know that? " Tilt his head in surprise.
"I heard his men talking." I continued to hold his gaze, as he gazed looked behind me and him. Then his eyes scanned the woods and saw no one but only a sparkle of light from far away.
Please don't ask that question you are about to ask. I might need to wipe your memory again.
He lifted his eyes at me, I knew he had a question and he just ignored it. Better for you. "He might be just one man to you," he said, "but that one man can poison the mind of everyone in this town against you, he already started by calling your actions witchcraft."
I huffed as I looked away lightly and back to him. "I think you have enough witches in your town than looking for just one person; don't you think?"
"What do you mean?" He asked suspiciously as he took a step closer to me, and I took a step backward and my back hit the tree.
"I don't have anything against this man," I quickly said to stop him from coming any closer, my heart started racing again. It's funny how I become me, the old me without the ring whenever am next to him. "If his sons did not cross my path, I wouldn't have hurt the—"
"He does not know that," He interrupted me. "all he wanted is to burn you on the stake for embarrassing his sons.
Come to my place and stay for the night. I promise you will be safe there. After daybreak his men will leave to report to him, you will have your chance to move on then."
"I'm not worried about his men, nor the man himself. If I want to go, no one can stop me. Am sorry, but I can't come with you." I concluded.
"Why not?" he sounded worried. "It's dangerous for you to go. More than three men are waiting for you over there. Besides, walking in this woods tonight all night is not a good idea."
"I can't come with you." I insisted.
"Why?"
"Because that was what you said last night, and now you want me to wait for another night???" My jaw dropped when I realized what I had just done. Oh no! I did not just say that. The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could have the chance to stop it.
A look of surprise formed on Michael's face, tilting his head like he could not hear what I said correctly. "I'm sorry what did you mean last night?"
I don't have time for this. "Look, I don't want any trouble, and the truth is, am not the one in danger here. I need to go and I need to go now." Raising my eyes to the sky checking the situation in the cloud with my people, then back to Michael.
I saw him follow my gaze to the sky and back at me. "Who are you running from; what did you do?"
"You asked too many questions."
"Okay..." He raised his hands in a surrender gesture. "Where are you going then, maybe I can help you. "
What is this, is everything repeating itself? Why is he asking the same question as he did last night? Oh wait, does my reverse spell affect me as well? — No, it can't be.
Looking back at him he focuses his gaze on me like he was figuring out my thought, "Are you still here?"
"Yes," I said lifted my eyebrows at him and my eyes went straight into his everything went quiet around me and the only thing I could see was his face, the muscle on his arms, and his breath like it was the only thing I could hear.
Suddenly I started feeling drawn into his eyes, like energy was flowing through both of us and it drawing me into him.
Whenever I felt the surge it was usually like I was drawing energy from him, but this time, it was like Michael was drawing back all my energy. I could feel the earth beneath me vibrating, and I could not stop it.
— I think he's channeling my magic somehow.
"I can't... come with you sire... am sorry." I protest breathlessly like that word took all my energy to come out, and my eyes began blurring and...
... Everything went blank.
