Before I can do anything, the shadow lords, their troops and I are back at the castle. Did we just teleport? Did an entire fucking army just teleport???
I glance over at Corinna, who wipes sweat from her forehead before addressing her soldiers.
"Head back to the barracks, all of you!" she commands. The person who saw me and my traitorous actions doesn't move an inch, and I feel my heart slowly begin to climb its way up my throat.
"Problem, lieutenant?"
"I-"
"Traitor!" I shout without thinking. "Cain, Corinna, Cassius I saw this woman rushing around the battlefield and speaking to the Star Beings. More than that, two years ago, before I was shipped off to prison, I could have sworn I saw her around their base."
"What? No! Shadow Lords, I saw Timor doing exactly what she claims I was doing during the battle. You mustn't believe her!"
"Are you crazy? Do you know who I am??? I'm Anaideia fucking timor, the dark star and chief enemy of those damned Star Beings. Why would I EVER help them?"
The soldier falls silent.
"Anai, rid this treacherous bitch from my presence." Cain says calmly.
I slit her throat without hesitation. The woman lets out a single, garbled, screech before collapsing to the ground, writhing in pain and clutching her throat. After a few minutes, she goes limp. I turn and step towards the three siblings. But then my vision begins to blur, like a camera that has gone out of focus. Before I know what's happening, I'm tipping sideways and toppling over onto the cold hard ground, my daggers skittering across the stone courtyard. It's only then that I realize just how wet my back feels.
And just how badly my body hurts.

When I come to, I'm back in my room. Cori is asleep in a chair across from my bed, bathed in the pale light of the moon. She almost looks angelic like this, her dark hair framing her face in a way that makes her look even more beautiful than she already does. Yet, as I stare at her, I know that no rose comes without it's thorns. Behind those closed eyes and Ruby red lips lies a snake that is waiting to strike me or anyone else who gets in her way down.
But when you look at her, that can be easily forgotten.
My gaze shifts over to the window. It's a cloudless night, so the stars are fairly easy to spot. There's so many, and it's hard to even believe that circling one of them is the same planet that Hade and the rest of the Star Being's grew up on.
A whole other planet of people, each with a story and a family. I wonder what it's like there. How many people live on earth? What wars are being waged? Hade mentioned their parents disliking them for what they were. Is the belief system different there? I remember DJ's mother reacting quite harshly to us dating.
You know, the more I think about it, the more hellish earth sounds. I mean, a world where people hate and kill just because of something someone can't help? How idiotic is that?
Well... I say that as though my family didn't slaughter generations of Star Being's for over 200 years. It was to keep their threat at bay, though that isn't much of an excuse.
Gods, are all the other planets out there this fucked up?
"quod factum est, mutari non potest. Sero est et fessus sum. bonam noctem terram..." and, with that final sentiment, I drift off into the void of unconsciousness, my back still aching from the shrapnel that dug into it just earlier today.

I open my eyes with a groan, the early morning sunlight burning into my skull. Corinna is gone.
I'm alone again.
If only that could fucking last.
One second, I'm at peace alone in my lavish room. The next, the asshole better known as destruction is there looking at me with that stupid fucking look on his face.
Can the man not take a goddamn hint?
"Get out," I growl, not bothering to look him in the eye.
"Anai, please I need your help."
"Oh really? I could have never guessed that."
The god's face twists into a look of annoyance.
"This is not the time for sarcasm, Timor."
"You're right, it's time for you to get the fuck out of my room."
"Anaideia, listen to me-"
"No, you listen to me. Look me dead in the fucking face, Destruction. I am the product of your and my father's decisions. You wanted a weapon, as did he. You just had to sit back and watch while he did the building. And when things got out of hand... when I got out of hand... then you started to intervene. You and the other gods don't care about me or the Star Beings! We're your little play things to fuck around with whenever you please and when shit inevitablely hits the fan you can decide to put down your little dollies and have a cup of tea! When are you going to realize that people can think and act on their own??? Your actions have consequences!!!"
"I know I screwed up, and for that I am sorry but-"
"Sorry?" I snarl, cutting him off.
"You're sorry? What the fuck does that fix?" I can feel the rage that's been building in me start to boil over. I drag myself out of bed and to my feet, hobbling over to Destruction, leaning on my couch so as to not topple over. How bad of a healer did they have on staff?
The next words come easy. They've been waiting to be said for years now.
"You made me a weapon. Don't expect my forgiveness just because you did it by accident this time."

"So that's it then. You won't even bother to hear me out?"
"I'd rather personally slit my throat."
Destruction stares at me for an agonizing few minutes as I struggle to hold myself up.
"Are you quite alright, Anai?"
"Shut up."
"You realize it's difficult to heal a body that rejects it, right?"
"Pardon?"
"That's the curse of a dark star. Most people cannot heal you, not unless they are a god or a Star Being."
"Bullshit. A friend of mine has healed me before. She's done it multiple times!"
"And yet when you were injured in battle, could a healer ever help?"
I fall silent, remembering all the times that a needle had to pierce my skin in order to fix my wounds. I can help but wonder about Leigh's true heritage... and whether or not she's been telling the full truth.
"As for your friend... Leigh is an interesting case. She's one of the strongest healers I've ever seen, and I'm only a little younger than the universe itself. Of course, there are rare cases like this. Your father searched for the best healers he could find, and a few of them sufficed. However, the scars all over you are certainly a testament to all the times a healer couldn't be found."
"Are we finished here?" I ask abruptly, wanting destruction to leave. "You're getting to be far too large of a pain in the ass, so I suggest you leave before I get violent."
"I'm a literal god."
"And I'm an annoyed 21 year old war criminal with almost nothing to lose, your point is?"
Destruction vanishes, the only trace of him in the room being the faintest smell of ash in the room. It lingers in the air for far too long.
Then I realize it's not the smell of ash, but of smoke. Cigarette smoke to be precise. On a hunch, I limp over and look over onto the side of my balcony. Waiting for me are two familiar faces, and I couldn't be happier to see either of them.
Hade extinguishes their cig on the railing, smirking at me. Leigh gives a small wave.
"What's up, Ani?"

Sorry for the random disappearance, I've got some family shit going on and school is starting up soon. Enjoy!
