Daniel's POV

Dr. Halstead continued to speak but the moment he said she was gone I couldn't hear anything he said. I felt multiple people's hands on my shoulders but couldn't hear them, the love of my life and the mother of my children was just shot and killed and for what. I came back to it when I heard Anna yelling, "You said everything would be ok, everything! This is twice now that you've lied to me!" I watched as Anna slammed her sister against the wall, hitting her head multiple times, before letting her fall, Harper, a Lieutenant, another Paramedic from house 51, and a Lieutenant from 62 all ran over to pull the girls apart.

Kira's POV

"Hate me all you want Anna, but till you're in my spot, either time you would have done the same!" I shouted holding my head as Gabby, Harper, and Jacob helped me back up. "I'm good! I'm good!" I said shaking them off, Ivy ran over to us as Mia ran to her dad, Ivy wrapped her arms around my waist crying. I knelt picking her up and whipped away her tears, walking her over to her dad. "Hey Uncle Daniel, you and Lisa were there for us when we went through this, if you or the girls need anything we're here for you." I said softly pulling him into a hug seeing as I still had Ivy on my right hip.

Daniel took Ivy from my arms, taking hold of Mia's hand before walking off with Dr. Halstead to talk about arrangements. My head was aching by that point, Cassey and Harper were still talking with Anna, as I headed outside. I needed fresh air by now, I was starting to feel as though I was drowning in my thoughts when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Jacob and Gabby behind me, sitting down to just take a breath. I lowered my hand from the back of my head to see a small amount of blood on my fingers. Gabby headed off to our ambo to grab some gauze, it wasn't like I was bleeding a lot, but she was concerned.

When she left Jacob moved to sit next to me, wrapping his arms around me, I had told him about everything that happened with my mom, my head was flooding with memories. His hand ran through my hair as he turned my face towards him placing a soft kiss on my lips.

Gabby

I returned with the gauze and a couple other small things when I saw Kira and that Lieutenant. I stopped to give them a minute before approaching them. "So...Kira, how long has this been going on?" I asked her with a smirk as I glanced over to the Lieutenant as he had moved out of earshot. Her face went red then fell again and I cleaned the blood and examined the wound. "Jacob and I have been together for three months now. I haven't told my father yet and now really isn't a good time after...well everything." Her smile faded "Why did Anna react like that? She knows we did everything we could, and even the doctors did what they could. She was out of line to beat your head into the wall." I questioned as I finished with her wound, it didn't require any stitches just a bit of cleaning and hope that Kira wouldn't mess with it. "I don't know Gabby. She holds onto the past and rightfully so. You already know everything with my mom and Anna isn't wrong, I told her mom would be fine which was a lie. I knew it was bad but what would tell a fourteen-year-old in that situation?" She had gone quiet again, Jacob had been watching us and slowly made his way over once I had finished. "Gabby, I make one request. Please don't tell anyone about our relationship. We had planned to tell everyone tomorrow but after the events of today we will be putting that off for some time, at least time tensions aren't so high." I nodded as we switched places, walking back into the waiting room, leaving the two of them alone.

Kira's POV

It had been almost two weeks since Lisa's death, and her funeral was today, I already cleared it with Chief Boden seeing as I was meant to pull another shift at 51. Anna and I still weren't talking much after the incident at the hospital, the headaches had at least gone away after about a week. I had taken that week off, so I didn't have to deal with the headaches while at work.

Jacob had spent another night at my place, he was still in laying in bed when I got up to get ready. "Are you ok, Kira?" his voice was off having just woken up. I nodded as I buttoned my shirt, "You need to get ready for work luv. I have today off but I'll probably head to 62 afterwards." I said as I grabbed my cap, turning away to leave as Jacob pulled me into a hug giving me a kiss. "Let me know if you need anything. I love you."

"I love you too." I said as I left the bedroom, grabbing my keys and leaving my apartment. I was still struggling with the thought of just how this felt all too familiar feeling, once I pulled up, I quickly walked inside greeting Daniel as he stood by a picture of Lisa in uniform below the image it read, Lisa Bell Miller Knight.

The room filled with family members, cops, and firefighters that were close to the family. Everyone spent time talking to each other. After a short bit the funeral was started, many people close to her took turns speaking. I slowly got up when it was my turn with a paper in my hand.

"Many knew Lisa as the amazing cop that she was but for me I knew her as the one who saved my life. I'd probably be dead right now if it wasn't for her. I was always close to Lisa when she worked with my mom. The day my mom was killed Lisa pulled my siblings and I all aside and spoke to each of us individually, she told me that even though the world throws us these curve balls, these rude or painful awakenings we still must push through them. She had given me these..." I said holding out two old police badges. "...as many cops know you receive a badge when you're in academy, these are both my mother's and Lisa's badge that they received. I've held onto these for five years now, but I think it's time for them to help another kid." With that I stepped down and walked straight to Mia pinning her mother's badge to her shirt then to Ivy pinning my mother's badge to hers. I stood up and saluted both the girls then turned and sat back down.

A couple others went up after and said their peace, once they finished all Firefighters and Cops, Retired or still on the job, stood and saluted. I, Harper, Dylan, Liam, Carter, and Anna all stood and walked over to Lisa's casket. Daniel had asked us to be the pallbearers a few days ago. The six of us walked over. Dylan and I stood at the front, Harper and Anna in the middle, and Liam and Carter stood at the end. We all lifted the casket up and slowly walked out while everyone stood lined up in formation. Once outside Trucks from all our houses had lined up on one side of the street and Patrol cars lined up on the other side of the street. We carefully placed the casket inside the car and each saluted. Daniel had been walking behind us with the girls as they each placed their hand on the casket as one last goodbye.

The six of us stayed back after the funeral was over to help Daniel pack things up. "Hey kid, how's the head?" Daniel asked as I walked over to him. I laughed a little, "I've had worse. Anyway, Anna was right, it's just what else was I supposed to say? All my life I've protected her or at least tried to." Daniel wrapped his arm around me pulling me close to him, "Promise me you'll fix this with her. The last thing you two need is for something to happen to either of you and never getting to say sorry." I looked up at him and nodded then went back to cleaning up.
