Kira's POV

It's been almost a year now, my father stepped down into retirement as Dylan took over as Chief. Liam and Cater stayed as Lieutenants but left 62 for other houses, both boys welcoming their first born. Each having a son, Liam and Evelyn had their son, Jalen Michael Sanchez, while Carter and Rosslyn had little Oscar Henley Sanchez. They were born within a week of each other which made it a crazy time for all of us, Dad was so excited to have a pair of grandsons finally even though he loves his granddaughters. Part of me thinks he stepped down so he could spend more time with family, which honestly is amazing. He has been more involved in all of our lives lately, respectfully, it has been wonderful having him around more often.

Anna wasn't seeing anyone, at least not that I knew of. She had grown attached to the job, even more than before, climbing the rank to detective. Over time she will likely become sergeant but for now she seemed happy to stay at Harper's side.

For me, I had worked my way to Lieutenant, I was still working at 51 but not as a Lieutenant. Stella earned that place after Cassey resigned. Dylan kept a door open for me if I ever chose to follow through with my rank. A couple months after the events of helping Harper with the case, Jacob moved in with me, nothing had come farther with our relationship, although I do think he is hiding something, but that is a future matter. Jacob had grown close to my father and siblings, even though Dylan still drives him crazy at times.

I spent a lot of time helping both Evelyn and Rosslyn when they needed it, getting to hang out with my little nephews. Sometimes Leah would leave the girls with me on some of my days off, even Daniel would leave Mia and Ivy with me. The days I had all four, I would take them out for a mini girl's day, sometimes I'd take them out for ice cream, a trip to the park, or even a spa day.

I wasn't watching the kids today as Jacob had urged me to pack for a surprise trip. I knew he was planning something, but this was not really what I had expected, we both loved to be in the forest. Embraced in the peace of it all, and the solitude with just us, I wasn't much for the romantics after past...well relationships, but Jacob was different. I was closer than ever to him and had poured so much myself and my love to him. He was always there for me through everything, just as I was for him. I moved back towards the bedroom, turning on so music as I packed a bag for tomorrow's trip.

Jacob's POV

I was counting the hours till my shift ended, this was my last shift before vacation. I had talked previously with Anthony about a certain matter. I was eager to get home to Kira, I had told her to start packing before I left for my shift, I was taking her away on a camping trip. My shift seemed longer than normal today as my crew decided to pick on me as they knew why I was so eager to get home. We didn't receive another call for the rest of shift, as shift ended, I handed the baton over to the Lieutenant of the next shift and headed out.

Within the span of the last year Kira had opened up more to me, her warm smile greeting me as I opened the door. "So, Mr. Lover boy what kind of trip have you planned for us?" I laughed at her question dropping my bag and picking her up. I carried her off to our room setting her down with a kiss, "No questions love we need to finish packing and get some sleep." I said with a smirk as I turned to grab my duffle bag and start packing. I looked to see her pouting with her arms crossed, "You could just pack in the morning and just come back to me." I smiled at her, leaving the bag on the chair and walking back to her.

Kira's POV

When I woke, I found the bed to be empty. The smell of pancakes flooding the room. When I got up, I pulled an oversize shirt, one of Jacob's, over my body and left the bedroom. "Pancakes? What a treat!" I said, smiling at him as I joined him in the kitchen. "Thought you might enjoy a sweet treat before we leave!" he said kissing me before turning back to flipping the pancakes.

We sat down to eat, taking our time to enjoy our breakfast, this wasn't overly something that we got to do every day as we had different shifts. When we finished Jacob left to finish packing while I cleaned up and later finished getting dressed. When everything was ready Jacob carried our bags out to the truck with our camping gear. Locking the house door and turning to the truck to head into the forest for the next four days.
