Prologue
The bright light stunned my eye. The white room smelled clean, no stains or anything. I looked down my clothes, torn, dirty, and all bloody. Even though I couldn’t see my face, I felt blood falling from my nose. The door seemingly pop out of nowhere and a man wearing a black suit came in.
‘’You know too much Alex, I’m afraid we can’t let you leave.’’
Alex, that name meant nothing to me. I sat there trying to remember what happened during the past few weeks. A few weeks ago the only chair I sat in was my desk at Lincoln High School. A few days ago, I walked pass my best friend, Jason. I and he haven’t talked in a while. It happened when he broke up with Dana, his girlfriend, one month later, she asked me out. Since then, he called me a traitor.
He was standing by his locker, his long blond hair was pushed behind his ears, his short face covered in sadness, and he was wearing a long hoodie, something he never used. I walked passed in the hall, meeting his eyes. I quickly ducked into the dude’s room, and took a good, long look at myself. I had long black hair that people made fun off for being too long, my face covered in grease,
‘’Puberty…heh what else can I expect from a 16 year old’’, I was wearing t-shirt with a gray hoodie topped off with a jet black jacket. I didn’t wear so many clothes, I didn’t care about my looks, I had a slender body, not too fat and not too skinny, compared to Jason I was puny. Jason had a good build, fat over that thick layer of muscle.
It was only one year after we tried out for the football team and Jason managed to tackle two huge guys without trying. I covered my face with my hoodies, its shadow cover the upper half of my face. I ducked out and looked a long look at Jason, he had welts on his neck. ‘’ His old man’’, I thought. Only two days ago, his old man was fired from the force, ever since than his father started drinking and severely beating him.
I walked down the hall slowly. It was only 2 minutes before my science class started. I looked to my sides, people staring, with looks on their faces,’’ He’s a kid that transferred’’, ‘’what’s he doing here’’, but that wasn’t the only reason why they stared.
My dad was a cop. And I mean ‘was’. My dad is dead. He and Jason’s dad work for the fuzz. He was a field cop, Jason’s dad would track ‘em down and my old man would take ‘em down. It was three days before I was accepted in the magnet program of Lincoln High. Before then I attended the regular side, with my friends. With Jason. My folks thought I could accomplish more and enrolled me in the program.
The day my father died. That day, still haunts me if only…
I made my way to my science class before the bell and sat down.
