Chapter 2
The rattling turned to be my dog, a 80 pound dark brown blood hound, Sam. She appeared to want me to take her out for her daily stroll around the neighborhood.
Around 9 pm, I sat in my bed thinking about the papers in my dad’s desk, but my thoughts were shattered by my mom hammering in the hallway. I opened my door to see her jamming a piece of wood into the door to dad’s study and secured it by nailing it to the door frame. She didn’t seem to notice me so I went back to thinking.
‘’ What would papers that don’t have anything to do with NYPD be in my dad’s papers and how does Jason’s dad fit in with any of this.’’ I thought to myself.
I woke up the next day at 5:30 in the morning, just half an hour before the bus comes to pick me up to school. On my way out, I saw the large block of wood jammed into dad’s study door. It drew so much attention, I didn’t know why but I tried to pry the door open but only managed to loosen up the block of wood. I left to catch the bus but forgot to secure the wood before I left, but since mom left early and won’t come home until midnight I figured.
School was shorter than usual today. Jenny talked to me about my grades again and other stuff. During English, I noticed Jason wasn’t in his seat, turns out his folks had a fight and Jason took a hit for his mom from his old man who recently came home buzzed and pissed off. When school was over I saw Jason leaving the nurse’s office with an ice pack on his left eye.
‘’Damn what’s next a bullet to the coin purse ‘’ I said to myself.
Around 8 that night I saw Jason sign in online. I forgot to delete him as a friend, but I couldn’t help but message him so I did.
A-Man: Hey I heard bout ur folks
JASON X: Watcha want
A-Man:……..
JASON X: Look I appreciate da thought but I don’t have time
A-Man: i….. just wanna know wat happened to us
JASON X:…………………….
JASON X signed off
I realized that was the only time that me and Jason had talked since my date with his ex.
I sat there looking at the screen hoping he’d sign in again but later I saw a notification say that he had deleted me as a friend. At the same time I felt a mixed feeling of sadness and relief. Maybe Jason and I were still friends. I had to find out even though he didn’t look it, he needed help and he sure wasn’t gonna get it from his old man.
I laid there in bed, lookin at the ceiling, wondering when or what i should say to Jason. Around midnight, I heard a siren, coming from around the block, right where Jason lived.
''His old man'' I thought bitterly to myself. No doubt he had a nother hard day at his job, and now he is gonna take it out by drinking and going home to beat his wife. I knew what would happen next Jason, not wanting to see his mom all beaten, would step in and confront his old man only to get a world of pain.
I actually saw it happen, during freshmen year while me and Jasom were still friends.
