That evening, Jamie had walked Isla to Mabel's family home. He was a little nervous about how Mabel was going to feel about him bringing Isla in, but he needed to make sure that she was safe, if she wasn't going to get the care that she needed. He knew that Mabel was going to have a problem with it, but a part of him didn't exactly care. But giving the safety and protection that Isla needed. As they went inside, Jamie opened the door for Isla, and she walked inside. Mabel was with Ethel and Mabel looked over her shoulder and saw that Jamie had brought home a guest. She immediately walked over to Isla, Mabel looked at her for a moment almost annoyed, but then looked at Jamie and shouted at him.
"What the hell is she doing here?" Mabel asked her
"She needed somewhere to be for a bit." Jamie answered, "I didn't know what to do..."
"Isla..." Mabel started, "Can you go upstairs, I have to talk to Jamie for a moment."
Isla nodded and agreed as she walked upstairs. Jamie told Isla to let him know if there was anything she needed. Isla nodded and went into the other room. Mabel then looked at him for a few seconds and then whacked him on the arm.
"What are you thinking?" Mabel asked, "Why would you bring in here without asking me?"
Jamie didn't know what to answer, and he immediately answered saying he didn't want to see her get hurt.
"She works in a factory and has her own home..." Mabel started, "None it makes sense."
"I just don't want a girl in her condition to get hurt..." Jamie said, "You can see how vulnerable she is."
Mabel couldn't understand the way Jamie was feeling in regards to helping Isla. She didn't understand why he wanted to help her. It wasn't anything like him, and she just didn't know why he was acting the way he was. She had never seen him all frantic over a girl and getting worried over her wellbeing, whatever it was that was happening. Jamie didn't want to tell Mabel how bad it was. It also was not her place to know to begin with.
"Is she dying?" Mabel asked, "Does she need to flee the country? I don't understand, Jamie."
"Wow... are you really that heartless?" Jamie argued back at Mabel, "She works at a factory all day with no pay, no support, and gets hurt and abused during her work..."
"That's not my problem. Nor yours."
Jamie looked over and saw Isla was coming down the stairs. She was listening in, Jamie looked over at her and smiled at her and wondered what was happening.
"Am I causing problems?" Isla asked Jamie and Mabel.
"No." Jamie said,
"Yes." Mabel said at the same time as Jamie, Jamie looked over at her and rolled his eyes at her. Isla didn't make a sound and watched them argue.
"Isla... what is it?" Jamie asked,
"Thank you... for bringing me in... but I think I'll manage on my own..."
"No..." Jamie argued with her, "That is not happening, until you can find a safe environment for yourself...I'll be damned if that happens."
Mabel sighed and was getting annoyed, she didn't want to be guilt-tripped by Jamie into letting Isla stay with them but she knew that was going to be the case. Jamie looked over at Isla and then stared over at Mabel. Mabel couldn't believe that she was accepting Isla in but she was about to, and she knew she wasn't going to be too happy about it. But it was for Jamie, and not for Isla or herself.
"Alright... I was out of line." Mabel said, "Perhaps we will let you stay for a few days until whatever is going on with you gets figured out. I hate having to be nice to you."
