The afternoon had Isla exploring the city, going onto the bridge and seeing so many things that she thought she had never seen before. She loved seeing the sight of the frozen lake up from the bridge.
The thoughts of the lake had Isla thinking about everything that had been happening, and everything that had happened to her in the past. She missed most of her childhood, she remembered seeing children Ice Skating in the frozen lake and always wanted to join them, but she never could. She was stuck working and none of it was here choice.
But she was a different woman now, and she was going to do whatever she wanted to please. And she wasn't going to care who was going to stay in her way, because she wasn't going to let anyone to such a thing.
As she walked over to the lake, she looked over and saw a bunch of people by the frozen lake and she immediately took interest in getting to ice skate, even if she didn't have any ice skates with her. She was going to enjoy her life freely.
Meanwhile, Mabel was with Jamie walking down at the same bridge that Isla was at moments ago, the two of them were finally able to reconcile about everything that had happened, and Mabel admitted that she was overreacting a bit and Jamie was going to do whatever he could to be better. Especially when he was with Mabel. Because he wanted to be with Mabel, and he was hoping that more could happen between them. He still didn't know if he loved her the way she wanted him to.
Perhaps maybe it wasn't her.
It wasn't Mabel that he wasn't supposed to be with at the end of it all.
Jamie started to feel the beautiful breeze of the cold air, and he looked over at Mabel. He watched her and was wondering what was next. He didn't know if he was going back in the military any time soon, and was hoping he was going to be able to show how better he had become. He didn't remember the last time he had a drink, the last he did was at the ball and there were no other times where he had a drink ever since. There were times when he felt tempted to drink, such as the night that he and Mabel got into that huge and heated argument over Isla. But he kept himself in control to stay away from drink because all he wanted was a chance to return back into the military and fight for the country because he was trying so hard to be a better man for himself, and that was all he wanted. But there was something that he felt was holding him back, but he couldn't figure out what it was.
As Mabel and Jamie continued to walk around the city, Jamie started to think less about Isla, and think less about being in the military and he started to think less about when he was ever going to drink again. But he knew he needed to clear his head, and he knew that being around Mabel was going to help him do that. She tried to be better, she was trying so hard to not let her anger, and her jealousy get the best of her. But sometimes it was just going to happen more than she realized it did. Something that Mabel would never admit was that she felt bad for the way things turned out with Isla, and how she took her anger out on her. When she thought about it, she felt sick to her stomach, that she scared off Isla the way she did and was too proud to admit how bad she felt, especially when she knew how genuine Isla was, and she knew that deep down both of them were being truthful.
Especially Isla, but she also remembered Jamie's past, and how he had hurt his own best friend in the past. And she knew how his betrayal affected everyone. How everyone was ganging up on Jamie to own up to his actions, including herself. If she could go back and do it all over again, she would and talk more sense into him, and if he ever betrayed her, she would have made sure he'd pay. But she had high hopes this time around, she knew that Jamie was trying to be better. And she knew that he could do that.
The two of them spent some time talking by the bridge, Mabel started to ask him about the military, and she wondered if he ever spent some time thinking about the war. But Jamie just admitted that sometimes he wanted to forget all about it, but days were hard to forget about everything. He admitted to Mabel how he wanted to drink in order to forget about everything. But he knew that would never solve any problems.
