In the course of the fourty-eight hours, Jamie did his best to pack a bag that he had, and Isla helped him in the time being. Jamie's bag was small and he didn't have much. The rest of his things were with Mabel and probably thrown in the trash somewhere. Which Jamie did see coming given how angry Mabel was at him, he was expecting her to throw everything in the garbage or everything away where he would never find anything, but he didn't really care too much.
So to clear his head, Jamie decided to spend his time with Isla, who was there supporting him every step of the way. The two of them also got sidetracked most of the time, with Jamie gently kissing her neck and later the two of them got distracted and ended up making love in the cottage. Which was a great distraction for the both of them, for them to forget about everything that has happened, and with forgetting about the thought of Jamie leaving.
Isla didn't want him to leave. Jamie didn't want to leave either, but he felt like he really didn't have a choice. Things were going to be different and he needed to be a better man for himself and when he was going to be with Isla again. He already had seen himself become a better man and that growth in him was going to continue.
He was already having doubts, about whether or not going back to war was a good idea. But he had to do it, he had to prove himself. For himself. And for everyone else. He didn't want to suffer the same fate John did.
Having loads of shell shock and all of the demons from the war coming after him, and then eventually hurting the ones he loved in the process. But Jamie knew that he was stronger than that.
He was stronger than John and he was going to be able to get through anything, as long as he thought about Isla's love, he was going to be more than alright.
They had spent the nights talking and making love, which was nothing but pleasuring, but the last night they had together was definitely the most pleasuring for both of them. Jamie wanted nothing but to please his Isla. The night was filled with gentle, soft, but pleasuring thrusts. He was gentle with her until she would ask him to go fast and he wanted nothing but to please her. He was especially satisfied every time she gasped and called for his name during thrusts. He kept kissing her breasts most of the time and her neck, and Isla was in heaven. It was the safest that she had felt in a long time. And when she had finished moments later, that was when Jamie was more happy and pleased than ever.
Both of them had looked at the time and started to realize that it was almost time for Jamie to go. Isla kissed his lips as she was in his arms. She didn't want him to leave her.
"I don't want this to ever end." Isla said to him kissing his lips again, "I don't want to leave your arms."
"Neither do I..." Jamie said as he pulled Isla closer, "But you know I have to soon, as much as it pains me, I have to..."
Isla hated the thought of Jamie leaving her. Their story was just beginning, and being with him meant so much to her. She didn't want him to ever leave her, but then she started to think about what their life together would be like when the war is over. They were going to be together again in the cottage, and they would be able to spend all the time they wanted together in the world and not care about anything else that happened. It would be them and only them.
"I wish I could take you with me," Jamie whispered,
"Me too." Isla admitted, "I would probably die out there but I wish I could."
Jamie started to move away and get out of bed and started to get dressed. He looked over to see that Isla was naked and under the covers. He couldn't help himself but stare at her, he couldn't imagine himself leaving her. He didn't want to. But he had to and he just needed to think about when he was going to see Isla again when the war was over. He was going to spend ever day showing Isla how much he loved her and how much she meant to him.
"What's going to happen if you don't make it out alive?"
"Then..." Jamie said, "I will be waiting until I see you again..."
Isla smiled and a tear streamed down her face as he said those words. She wanted to remember this moment for the rest of her life.
"How much more time do we have?" Isla asked him as he walked over to her and he took her hands.
"Me too."
"And as long as we think about what's next... after the war... and when I can hold you again, I am not scared... and I am not scared of death."
Isla just went over to him and hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek, she didn't know what was going to happen next and she was terrified about all of the possibilities. But she had a few moments left with him and she wasn't going to let any of it go to waste.
She was scared of losing Jamie, she was scared of losing the man that saved her from everything that had happened to her and she wondered what was going to happen when he was gone. But then she remembered everything that he told her of what was going to happen when the war was over and they would see each other again.
Isla then let go of Jamie and she looked into his brown eyes and he looked into her big bright blue ones. And she was already starting to get a glimpse of their future.
And Jamie was starting to see it too. Which was one of the reasons that he needed to survive.
