Isla and Jamie both tried their best to forget about Cal and how Mabel betrayed them. Jamie was heartbroken that someone, let alone Mabel would do anything to get rid of Isla. It was low, even for her.
But Isla and Jamie chose to forget about it, by spending time together in that cottage where everything started between them. Going back was going to forget about everything that they had suffered. And Jamie wanted to spend as much time with her as possible because he didn't know when he was ever going to leave her again. He didn't even want to think about that. He was just thinking about her.
To Jamie, Isla felt like a dream. She was everything that any man could want. He wondered what he had done to deserve a girl like her. He still didn't know. But he didn't want to think about why. He was finally starting to think about how he actually had her.
From Candles, and flowers all over and picnics by the cottage. Everything was starting to make sense. He was going to be exactly who he wanted to be, and he couldn't wait for everyone to see what kind of man he was. Isla knew that if he had the opportunity to go back in the military at any point, he would accept it without hesitation and Isla understood why he enlisted in the first place, she was the only one who really understood. One of the reasons that Jamie adored her so much.
The two of them had spent the entire day talking about what was going to happen the moment Jamie enlisted. Isla promised to him that she was going to write as much as he could and Jamie promised the same thing. He wanted to write to her as much as possible and he reassured to her that he was going to come back safe and sound.
She knew he would keep his word, but she didn't want to admit it but she was scared for him. She was scared of the thought of him not returning alive.
To forget about it, they spent time talking about the flowers, and how there were many flowers to choose from. Jamie also picked a few to put in the cottage and make sure that they were all planted and watered. That was the way that Isla would remember that Jamie was going to survive.
"I want you to remember this as my symbolism for surviving..." Jamie whispered in her ear kissing her forehead.
"I will." Isla said, "I promise."
Isla leaned in and kissed him, trying her best to forget about all of the possibilities about the things that could happen. She didn't want to admit it to anyone, but she was scared. Scared of what was going to happen so she used her kiss to remember that everything was going to be alright. She knew how tough he was and she knew that he could do anything, which was one of the reasons that she told herself to stop worrying so much.
"Isla..." Jamie started to say, he found himself gulping and swallowing, trying to figure out what he was going to say next. Isla wanted to give him time to think about what he was going to say next.
"Yes?" Isla asked him as he started to look down on the ground, Jamie took a deep breath trying to think about what he was going to say next. He was scared and Isla understood that he had a hard time expressing his emotions. He needed to say what he wanted to say before it was too late.
"Whatever it is you can say it, and I will never judge you..." Isla said, "I promise you."
Jamie sighed, he knew exactly what he was going to say. He needed to say it or he was going to regret it.
"I love you Isla..." Jamie blurted out, "I love you, that's what I was going to say... and if I didn't say it now, I was going to hate myself for it."
Isla smiled and she didn't think that Jamie would be this open with her. She could understand why he was having a hard time. Isla remembered that the last time Jamie loved someone, it ended up hurting him in the end, and it hurt her in the end. But Isla, she loved Jamie back she loved him more than ever before. She wanted him to know that and she wanted him to know that she was never going to hurt him.
"I love you, Jamie..." Isla said back, "Like I really. Really. Really. Love you. You saved me when I needed someone... which I know sounds too cliche..."
"Stop." Jamie blurted interrupting her knowing that she was too nervous to say anything else. He just gently kissed her on the lips to try and calm her down. Isla took a deep breath staring at Jamie. She just wanted to have that feeling that she was going to be safe with him, and she had that reminder of being with him.
"How much more time do we have?" Isla asked,
"I don't know sweetheart," Jamie said taking a deep breath and kissing her, "I just know I want this all to last forever."
"Remember when you wanted me to stay away from you?" Isla asked, "Why?"
Jamie took a deep breath and started to think about what he was going to say next. He needed to be honest with her because he knew the reason behind it. Himself.
"Maybe I was scared I was going to ruin you," Jamie confessed, "Because you are just so angelic, and kindhearted, and I was worried that if you were around men like me, you were going to get hurt."
"I would have been fine..." Isla said, "I'm a lot stronger than most people think..."
"I know you are, angel," Jamie said kissing her forehead, "I know..."
He was scared about the rest of the time he had left with her and he wasn't thinking too much about when he was going to leave again, and he wasn't thinking about Silas, Ciera or what Mabel had done to them. Jamie Hamilton wasn't thinking about anything else other than Isla Penn. His sweet, darling Isla Penn, who was purer than ever before and had a softness that he wished that he had. Jamie just thought Isla was an angel for him, with her beautiful brown locks down all the way down to her back and her bright blue eyes that were as blue as the ocean. She was everything and more to him, he didn't want to leave her. He wanted to stay with her forever, Jamie then started to think about everything that they were going to have after the war. They were going to spend as much time together in the cottage as possible.
Adding more and more plants and more and more flowers.
To remind themselves that their love for one another was never going to die.
"Do you wonder what is going to happen after the war?" Isla asked him,
"I know it'll be me and you..." Jamie answered, "When I return to you, I am going to take you to the nearest church..."
"Are you asking me what I think you are asking me?"
"I am..." Jamie answered, "Are you saying yes?"
"I am..." Isla answered kissing his lips.
