Vegas

Thankfully, the house wasn't as loud as I expected it to be with my crazy cousin around. He barely argued with Macau and that's quite shocking. I'm beginning to think he genuinely just wanted to give my Little demon the best one-year birthday celebration.

I woke up in the middle of the night, staring at my two cuties beside me on the bed. Venice was in between Pete and me protectively.  Pete had his arm around the kid securing him as if he would disappear if he didn't. I smiled to myself as I brought my hand to touch Little demon's head.

Wait, something wasn't right. His body temperature was not normal and he was heating up. His whole body was sweaty too.

"Hey, wake up Pete! Venice is not okay." I tapped him awake.

"What is it, Vegas?" He asked still sleepy sounding sleepy.

"Venice has an abnormal body temperature, he's heating up," I announced and the sleep immediately disappeared from his eyes.

Venice was already up and crying which made us frustrated.

Pete got up to get the thermometer and proceeded to check his temperature. Gosh, it was high. Fear crept into me as I picked him up without thinking and began making my way to the door. Pete followed immediately, knowing where I was heading without questions.

We got to the hospital in no time and made our way to the ER. The doctor took Venice in for examination. Pete and I stayed in the room but weren't too close.

I was scared out of my mind because this was my first time seeing my boy like this. Pete was calmer than I was. I guess he had much experience with this.

"He will be fine, Vegas, don't worry" Pete assured and kept patting me on the back.

"Are you sure, Pete?" There was complete nervousness in my voice.

"Trust me, Vegas, he will be fine I promise."

Took a while but the doctor was finally done examining him and gave him some medication before making his way over to us.

"You don't need to worry so much. His body was fighting against an infection which brought about the rise in body temperature which in my opinion, is quite normal. We've given him some medications and he will be fine in no time. I will check up on him in the morning and you can take him back home." He said with a smile before walking away.

We sighed out of relief as we made our way over to Venice. He was quite calm now and that was a good sign. He was asleep and I guess it was the medication taking effect.

We sat close to him and Pete placed his head on my shoulder while holding onto Venice's hand.

"You got really scared, didn't you?" He asked still keeping his focus on the boy.

"I was really scared, Pete... Venice grew on me and I can't imagine a life without him." I replied, hugging Pete to my side.

"The doctor assured us he will be fine so let's just wait for him to wake up so we take him home." He still held on to Venice.

"What would have become of this family without you, Pete?" You are our strong pillar." I kissed him on the cheek and that earned me a smile. Cute.

It was morning and the doctor came to examine Venice, making sure he was okay before telling us we could take him home.

The little demon was finally up and looked much better now but he kept looking weirdly at his surrounding. He sure realized he wasn't home but his eyes sparkled when he saw us.

"You're up, buddy." I picked him up from the bed.

Pete immediately kissed him and he couldn't help his giggle. He made grabby hands at Pete who didn't hesitate to take him away from me.

"Venice, you are going to play favorites now? I was by your side the entire night without ever closing my eyes. Your Pa Pete here slept at a point and I was kept watch alone. So don't you dare play favorites now buddy. I look like a zombie and I'm so hurt." I said with a childish pout but it was as if I was invincible to both of them.

Now am jealous. I'll have my moment too.

I kept looking at Venice in Pete's arms and he felt comfortable. It was a cute sight. I gave both of them a kiss before making my way out to complete the discharge process.

We arrived home and it wasn't surprising to see Tankhun, Macau, and all the bodyguards looking restless. I remembered we forgot to take our cell phones.

"What's with the atmosphere?" I asked.

"Where have you guys been? We thought the three of you were probably kidnapped by an enemy. We were all very worried. You have no idea!" Tankhun says dramatically.

"Venice was running a fever in the middle of the night, so we took him to the hospital."  Before I could assure them he was fine, Tankhun begins to cry in his usual dramatic way.

"My dear nephew, it's just a week to your birthday and you decided to get sick?" He made his way over, taking Vernice from me into his arms. The kid didn't resist but had a weird expression on his face.

"Stop being so dramatic." Macau finally spoke.

"Shut up, Macau! I'm not talking to you but to my lovely nephew here." Tankhun replied.

"Uncle will give you one of the biggest birthday celebrations ever so you can boast about it to your friends when you grow up." He pats Venice on the head.

"You're a weird one." I took my boy back from him.

"You should all relax since everything is okay," Pete assured everyone and we made our way upstairs together.

That's it for this chapter.
See you at the next one.
