The night before
"Uncle Kinn, you wanted to speak with me?" Venice asked.
"I have a surprise for you." Kinn states and that spiked up the boy's curiosity. "You're on speaker, Uncle Porsche is here too."
"Uhm... Tell me about the surprise then?" He was getting impatient.
Kinn laughed at the other end of the line before saying, "It wouldn't be a surprise if we were to tell you but, I know you're going to like it."
A lot was running through Venice's head in a millisecond. He was making an effort to figure out what the surprise was but it was totally useless. What could that be?
"You might probably see the surprise at school tomorrow." Porsche finally speaks and now more than ever, Venice wanted to know what all this was about.
"You guys are really bad uncles." He pouts. "But I love surprises so I'll definitely look forward to it."
"And we hope it makes you happy," Porsche muttered.
"Venice, I haven't seen you for about a month now, don't you miss me?" Kinn asks softly.
Venice smiled at his Uncle's words and just then, he remembered his uncle owes him a trip. "Uncle Kinn, I miss you too but have you forgotten you owe me a trip to any country of my choice? It's a year already! You should keep your end of the deal." He huffed.
There was an awkward silence at the other end. Kinn finally speaks up, "how about you choose the destination and let me know? Think about it and give me your answer later, okay?"
Waves of excitement washed all over Venice. He wanted to go on a trip badly and this was his chance. "I'll think about it then." He responded happily.
The call ended and with his heart full of excitement, he galloped back to the table to continue his dinner, ignoring the curious looks his family was giving him.
Present day
"Phoenix? Phoenix Thee---rapanyakul?" Venice stretched the last name just to be sure.
The boy was looking at Venice with doe eyes, wondering who he was. His parents told him all about his cousin and he was looking forward to meeting him but what he did not know was, he would be schooling with Venice. Right now, he had no idea he was face-to-face with the said cousin.
"Yes, I'm Phoenix. Do you know me?" He asked, confused by Venice's reaction.
Venice covered his mouth with both hands, preventing himself from screaming in the canteen. This was too good to be true. This was the surprise his uncles meant and as they predicted, he was excited.
Finally composing himself, he speaks, "I'm Venice Theerapanyakul." He smiled lightly, a fluttering feeling stirring his stomach.
It was Phoenix's turn to look shocked. "What? You're Venice?" He couldn't believe he had just met his cousin.
Venice nods while shoving his hands into his pockets. "My uncles didn't tell you about me?" He frowned.
"They did but I had no idea I'll be schooling with you." Phoenix replied.
Venice plopped down on the seat, letting out a sigh. He gestured to Phoenix and he took his seat right across from him.
"You're in 3rd grade which means I'm older than you, correct?" He raised a brow amusingly at Phoenix. The feeling of having a younger brother excited him to no end.
