Her Secret

Chapter 9

Draco had a secret that he hadn't told anyone and that he himself was reluctant to admit. A few days before Maddy's accident his dear grater mark had started burning and when he looked down the snake was writhing and hissing against the backdrop of his skin. He would've ignored it like usual but he knew it was different this time. He wasn't sure what was going on yet but he knew whatever it was couldn't be good.

Draco looked around cautiously to make sure no one was following him before making his way to the abandoned girls Lavatory. He stood in front of a mirror holding a knife above his wrist. He shakily lowered the knife down to his death eater mark but before he could cut into the page white flesh he heard the loud clatter of footsteps against cold stone floors. Draco turned to see Harry Potter pointing his wand at him with a crooked grin. "Malfoy" Harry spat "Potter" Draco sneered as he tried to pull out his wand but it was too late.

Maddy had gone to see her sister, Luna, after being discharged from the infirmary. After she had visited her sister she noticed Draco in the hallway but before she could say hello he looked around and disappeared into the girls lavatory. Maddy was about to leave but then Harry walked in after him. Her curiosity got the best of her and she cautiously followed him. She cast a quick invisibility spell and then slipped past them both and his in one of the stalls. She peered out and saw Draco holding a knife above his wrist and Harry pointing his wand at him. She saw Draco go to pull out his wand but before he could Harry yelled "Sectumsempra!". Maddy leaped from the bathroom stall and jumped in front of Draco. She felt a wave of pain as the spell hit. She slammed to the floor with a dull thud as blood starts pouring out her face and stomach in a steady stream.

Draco screamed "No!" as Maddy jumped in front of him protecting him from the spell but instead taking the blow. He watched in horror as she fell to the floor and her life source started to drain from her body. He knelt by her and gently placed her head on his lap. "Please don't leave me!" He sobbed Holding her close to him. "Get help!" He screamed at Harry but Harry just stood there in shock "Go!" Draco screamed again pointing his wand at him. Harry ran to get Madam Pomfrey as tears ran down his cheeks whispering "What have I done?" over and over again.

Draco held Maddy's hand as he watched her peaceful features as she slept. If you hadn't known what had happened you'd think she was perfectly fine, but Draco knew better. Draco felt a tear start to form and cursed himself for allowing it. Madam Pomfrey walked in and Draco quickly fused his composure "Will she be okay? Will the baby be okay?" He asked frantically paunch starting to close in. "She'll be fine. She just needs rest." she said reassuringly "But the baby wasn't so lucky. I'm sorry" She said grimly patting Draco on the back. "Tha-Thank you" he said his voice cracking. "I'll give you a minute" She said sympathetically and left. Draco felt a tear slide down his cheek and then another and another until it was a full on sob. He cried for the first time in as long as he could remember. "I'm sorry baby" he whispered resting his forehead on Maddy's stomach.
