Varis looked out over Link VRAINS. He was starting to get seriously worried about Playmaker. No one had seen or heard from him in four months. He had even gone so far as to install a bug in the security camera near the apartment that Playmaker used to live at. Nothing.
"What is it Faust?" He demanded. "I know that you're watching me."
"Apologies, but I found something that I think you would like to see." Faust bowed slightly.
"And what is that?" Varis turned around. He doubted that there was anything so important that Faust would come to him directly about.
"A three-on-one duel." Faust straightened.
"So what?" Varis scowled. "Battle Royals have been becoming more and more popular. And the outcome is always the same."
"Not this time, unless the three are pretending to lose."
Varis gasped. "What?"
"Currently, the duelist who is on her own is crushing her opponents."
"Take me there."
Varis and Faust arrived just in time to see three people flying backwards through the air and land on the hard concrete of the roof. A sign appeared in the air with the word Winner on it and the image of a teenage girl.
"Nice duel!" The girl called over to her opponents who were struggling to sit up. "You lasted longer than the other people who dueled me." She walked over to the one nearest to her and held out her hand. The man took it and she pulled him up.
"What did you say your name was again?" The man asked warily.
The girl smiled. "I'm Glacier."
"Nice to meet you Glacier." Varis said from behind them. "I can't wait to watch a replay of your duel when I log back into the real world."
Glacier spun around. "You're Varis." She glanced behind him at the man watching them. "And you're Faust. Don't you all work for SOL Tech now?"
"We do, but that doesn't mean that I won't take an interest to a single duelist who somehow managed to defeat three other duelists in the same turn."
"Then sorry to tell you, but my duel is being deleted from their database as we speak." She shrugged. "I would love to duel you too, if you wanted, but I have to return to the real world now. I'm kind of on a tight schedule."
"Are you now?" Varis' eyes narrowed. "Well then, I'm afraid that your schedule will have to wait. We're going to duel now!"
"Sorry, but nope." She turned and ran over the edge of the building, vanishing into icy blue particles midair.
Varis glared at the spot that she had been in and turned to the people she had defeated. "Where did she come from?" He demanded.
"I don't know." One of them said nervously. "She just showed up and challenged us to a duel right after we beat three celebrity duelists. And her deck- it was amazing. She has to have years of experience."
"Is that so?" He frowned. I'll just have to trace her log-in information as soon as we get out of here. I will find out who she is, no matter what it takes. Because I get the feeling that this won't be the last time we run into her.
