Samantha doesn't usually work on Thursdays at the coffee shop. But when one of her coworkers, who has helped her out in the past with schedule changes, begged her to switch shifts with her, she reluctantly agreed. So, she is at work, making endless line of drinks and coffees. She only has one more hour to her shift left and she can go do something else. Anything else other than make coffees. This time of day, business tends to slow down so she is looking forward to squandering her last hour of work. But today, a woman comes in with a giant order that keeps Samantha busy for almost fifteen minutes.

Samantha thinks, "Couldn't just finish out the shift quietly, could I?" When all the drinks are made, the woman heads for the door. But right before her hand reaches for the doorknob, she stops and turns back. Samantha thinks, "Oh,  now what?" The woman returns to the counter and places yet another order. Samantha makes another drink and hands it off to the woman. The woman is struggling a bit to hold everything, but in the end manages to carry everything, and finally walks out the door. Samantha, hoping that the rest of her shift will remain quiet, turns her attention to cleaning the counter tops and the espresso machine.

As she does, Samantha hears the sound of a loud engine roaring. She is instantaneously irritated by the noise pollution and looks up to see what is making such a racket. That's when you see the woman with a large coffee order step out into the street. She must be talking to someone on the phone or something, because she doesn't seem to be paying any attention to the red Mercedes that is barreling down the street. The next thing Samantha registers is a sound that she has never heard before in her life. A heavy and distinct thud. What she sees next is that woman's body being thrown in the air, so high up that she loses sight of her at the upper limits of the store window. Samantha only sees the woman's body again when she lands back down on to the asphalt. For a split second, Samantha isn't sure what to do. She feels frozen. It's only when the patrons in the store start to scream that she comes back to her senses and calls 911.
