You feel numb. No, not numb, but as if you don't have a body. Like you are not attached to anything. Perhaps a soul without a body. You imagine, "If an idea was a sentient being, I think this would be what it experiences as it is being thought up. Just this nebulous blob with no walls or shapes, but somehow held together by pure will." There are no sounds, you can't see or feel anything tactile. You think, "This is the weirdest dream I've ever head." But as you float about, you can feel yourself slowly ascending. To where, you have no idea. But you feel yourself getting pulled up, like a fish caught in the fisherman's net.
You have no recollection of how you got here, wherever "here" is. You just found yourself existing in this... What is this? You don't feel any fear or anxiety. Just a mind or a consciousness drifting through... "Through what? Space? Am I in space? That's just crazy." As you think these thoughts, you continue to ascend. Like you are slowly emerging from a pool of molasses.
Eventually, you slowly swim out of the darkness in which you were enveloped, and you start to hear commotion happening all around you. Beeping, metal clanging, feet shuffling, something wet dripping on to the floor, and what else? Curtains being drawn? Nothing is clear, everything sounds like it is happening above water while you are still deep underneath. You can't seem to open your eyes or speak. You feel so heavy, God...so very heavy, as if you are weighed down with giant blocks of cement.
You think, "Is this a dream? Am I dreaming?" Then you hear an unfamiliar voice, a woman's voice, shouting, "Matt, she is waking up." You hear those words clearly and sharply. But never mind that. What your mind registers in the very next second is white hot pain. Pain that is so unadulterated and excruciating that nothing else exists but the pain. You think, "This is the definition of purity, where there is no room for anything else to exist." You wonder, "Can you feel pain in dreams? What is going on?" you suddenly hear the beeping sounds getting faster and faster. The pain is unrelenting, but mercifully, the same darkness that enveloped you before, comes back to claim you, taking you away from that pain.
