Caleb's corporate event felt like it wouldn't stop dragging for Adrianna, she was sure if she heard another word about stocks or percentages she would shrivel up. Caleb spent the evening gushing about his new fiancé, to say she was uncomfortable with it was an understatement. During shopping with Elle, she had taken her ring off to avoid any discussion about it, she was planning on calling the engagement off this evening so she didn't see the point telling her just to hear her talk about how it's a bad thing.

"Children? We'd love them. Big family man myself!" Caleb chimed to the man beside him. Adrianna's eyes darted to scold him, they'd never really spoken about children so she was unsure why he was being so certain. Caleb wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him.

"Adrianna, this is my boss. Darren Kemp. Darren this is my fiancé Adrianna."he introduced. Adrianna placed her hand out to shake his and he gladly accepted, the realisation hitting her that he's talking about kids to impress his boss. Caleb had always  been a serial people pleaser at work, some people admired how far it got him, however Adrianna saw it as almost weak, she felt pity for him.

"Nice to meet you Adrianna" Darren said enthusiastically. She looked at him for a moment, he was much taller than her, and his age was definitely catching up to him, however she politely introduced herself with a smile, exactly how Caleb ingrained into her. "So I guess congratulations are in order for you two!" He cheered. Adrianna looked at him for a moment before she remembered- the engagement.

"Oh thank you" she smiled. "It was unexpected" she chuckled. Caleb shot her a disapproving glare, this usually meant she had said something wrong.

"Well I was under the impression you two had talked about marriage a lot" he muttered. "Must be my mistake." He added smiling politely.

"Not wrong, absolutely right, she's just had a long few days- terrible memory this one" Caleb grinned pulling her close. She always hated these events, she was made to feel like she had to lie about every aspect of her life. Caleb would accept no less than perfection from her during them, everything must be as planned.

"Okay so as I was saying Caleb, you know as a family man myself I wanted the business to be taken over by another family man, one that understood morals." Darren explained. "Now I know you're engaged to be wed, which is fantastic news! I pegged you as more of a bachelor type so I'm extremely pleased to see a more permanent lifestyle." He continued. Adrianna simply sipping her wine and kept quiet, observing the conversation. "Now this is all cleared after our conversation the other day- I would now be willing to open the job position to you" he smiled widely to Caleb. Adrianna's face fell, her realising he only proposed for a promotion. She felt her cheeks heat up in anger at the realisation, her grip on the wine glass tightening as she took another gulp.

"I'd be honoured Darren! We are so glad you can see how happily engaged we are." He beamed placing his hand on Adrianna's lower back. She immediately shrugged his touch off her body and excused herself to the bathroom, her anger levels still increasing with every second. She got into the woman's bathroom and immensely placed her bag in the sink counter looking at her reflection.

"Fucking son of a bitch" she mumbled splashing her face with cold water.

"Are you okay?" A soft voice spoke, Adrianna turned to notice the blonde from Joe's apartment building earlier. "Oh it's you again" she said cheerily.

"Small world" Adrianna sighed forcing a smile.
"What brings you here?" She asked the girl.

"Oh I work for the company" she explained. "You?"

"Fiancée, well not for long" she scoffed.

"What happened?"

"Turns out he only proposed for a promotion, which is bullshit" she cussed looking into the mirror again. She noticed her cheeks were flushed even under her layer of foundation, the red was poking through.
