Will inserted the vhs, and pressed play on the movie. He then moved over to the very small couch the Byers had in their living room. The one where David was already sitting. If Will sat there they were definitely going to be touching, if he didn't sit there it was going to look very rude. So mustering up all his courage Will sat next to David on the couch. His back was straight up and he wasn't paying attention to the movie at all. The only thing he could think about was how they're legs were pressed together.
David seemed too sense Will's tension, "You, okay?" His deep eyes looked genuinely concerned and Will's heart melted a little bit, "Yeah all good he said. Forcing himself to relax, Will leaned back onto the couch. About an hour into the movie Will's head started to get heavy. At first he fought the sleepiness, trying to remind himself of how embarrassing it would be if he fell asleep right next to David.
Eventually Will gave up, deciding David would just have to deal with it. His head fell onto David's shoulder and as he was about to fall asleep he looked up to see David smiling down at him.
Will woke up 40 minutes later. The movie had finished but he could still hear people talking, his mom and David talking. Shit. He had fallen asleep and now poor David was subject to the pestering of his mother. He didn't have time to think about that for long though because he realized that he was lying not on David's shoulders but on his lap.
Had David moved him? Or had Will flopped down into that position. Why didn't David move him?!?!?! Trying to calm down, eyes still closed he listened to his mother and David's conversation. "Are you planning on staying here tonight honey?" Joyce asked, a concerned tone in her voice. "It's almost 9 o'clock and I don't want your parents to worry."
David seemed kind of concerned at the mention of the time. "I didn't realize it was so late, if you don't mind I'll call my mom and let her know I'm gonna stay late. She hates me being around town in the dark." Joyce nodded smiling "That's what mothers are for. Sleep in Will's room tonight. I think he has a sleeping bag somewhere in his closet."
Once again Will was panicking, because one David was staying the night, and two he was sure as shit not gonna be finding that sleeping bag in his disaster of a closet. Meaning he and David would have to share a bed. And now, Will cursed inwardly he could feel the blush creeping up his face at the idea of sharing a bed with David.
David stared down at Will. This sweet boy who had fallen into his lap while sleeping, the sweet boy who he couldn't be bothered to wake up. The sweet boy who he really hoped was into him. Joyce stared at them knowingly. "I'll get out of your guys' hair, just make sure to wake Will and get him to his bed soon. You guys have school tomorrow.
David nodded, waiting till Joyce walked down the hallway and into her bedroom before gently shaking Will awake. Will opened his eyes suspiciously quickly and David said. "Do you mind if I stay the night?" "No, not at all!" Will said way too eagerly. "Only thing is I can't find my old sleeping bag so we will have to share my bed." David did not seem displeased by this information Will noted. "No worries." David said.
Will got up to lead David to his bedroom when suddenly David's arm was around his shoulder again.
"You're cute when you sleep."
Will stopped walking. "Huh?"
David had that same teasing grin on his face. "You heard me." Will smiled, not caring about the obvious blush on his cheeks. "Thanks" he mumbled, smiling to himself.
Once they were in Will's room David seemed a bit more concerned. "I'm sorry Will I didn't want to make you uncomfortable." Will looked up quizzically. Uncomfortable? "No, I'm not. It's cool." David let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks for being cool about it. I know a lot of straight guys, most actually, would not be fine being friends with a queer guy." Will's brain was spinning fast now. He was praying the dim light of his room would make his expression a little harder to read.
"Your queer?" Will asked.
"Oh, uh yeah." David said worry on his face now. "I thought you figured that out from earlier when I was telling you about my dad. Sorry I... um. I can leave. Y'know if it makes you uncomfortable or something. ""No no it's cool" Will said quickly, trying to stop David's anxious rambling. "It's cool man." Deep breath. "I'm queer too so it's not exactly like I can judge. '
David grinned. "You like guys?" Will nodded, nervous for where this conversation was. I mean he liked David for sure, but was he ready to tell him that? Will decide he was. "What's your type?" David asked, his tone a lot less relaxed than it normally was.
Here goes nothing Will thought. "Tall, Brown eyes, Black curly hair, Drives a car." He held his breath looking up too David, confused at his look of disappointment. Will was about to ask what was wrong when David sighed and backed away from Will a bit.
"Mike." He said, jealousy obvious in his voice.
"What!" Will laughed he couldn't help it. I mean of course he had a crush on Mike, or used too, but how could David not see that Will was talking about him? Will took a step closer. "Dude, no." David looked up now, eyes full of hope. "You."
David grinned and moved closer, "Me?" Will nodded, feeling his heart speed up. The confession had sent his mind into overdrive panicking, he was trying to calm down so he could have a conversation with David. "Is that okay?" He was closer now so close their noses were almost touching. "More than okay" David whispered his lips so close Will could feel his breath as he spoke. He looked up at the taller boy who's eyes flitted down to his lips.
Then... David's lips were on his. Suddenly all the thoughts stopped, his brain was calm though his heart was still pounding. All that mattered was that he was being kissed. He felt David place his hands on the sides of Will's face and Will responded, reaching up to entwine his fingers in the other boy's curly hair.
David pulled away, grinning at him. 'I've wanted to do that since you ran into me on the first day of school." Will grinned dumbfounded by what had just happened. "I can't believe that just happened." he said, trying to wipe the stupid smile off of his face. "I know," David grinned, giving him another quick peck.
"Now we need to go to sleep before your mother gets mad at me for keeping you up late on a school night."
