When the bell rang at the end of the day, I was bursting with excitement. I couldn't wait to go to practice to tell Rory, I couldn't wait until after practice so I could hang out with Asher, and I couldn't wait until I got home later to tell this whole story to Sophia.
I didn't see Asher before practice, but I did see Finn. He came up to me for his usual locker chat at the end of the day (yes, he started doing that again after our little outing). I didn't mention anything about seeing Asher later to him, I'm not really sure why, maybe to protect his feelings, but it's not like it's a date or anything. I just didn't feel like getting into it with him.
Rory beat me to the locker room and when she saw me in there she smiled at me and said "You are BEAMING, Sadie! What happened??" I couldn't help but smile. "I'm going to meet Asher later. We're going to eat at one of my favorite restaurants." I was practically jumping up and down.
Rory's jaw dropped. "OMG! I can't believe you actually made that happen! I mean, I'm happy for you, but surprised! It happened so quickly!"
"I KNOW!" I shouted. The other girls in the locker room looked over at us. I guess I'm a little too excited.
"It's not a date or anything, at least not officially. It's my way of thanking him for the good article he wrote about us."
"Maybe it'll turn into a date by the end of the night. I hope you have some lip gloss with you." Rory smirked. "I know it's happening fast, but I don't think I'll get a kiss, I mean we barely know each other!" I chuckled. "Does that mean you would be open to a kiss??" She questioned.
I hesitated for a moment, then answered. "Well, I wouldn't NOT be open to a kiss. Every time I'm near him I get butterflies. Every time we talk, conversation feels so easy. I never felt so nervous yet so comfortable around someone at the same time."
Rory squealed. "Sadie's got a crush! I know for sure this time. You never spoke about Finn like this, with that dreamy look in your eye."
"As much as I hate to admit it, I think you actually are right this time Rory." I meant that, I really do think I have a crush on Asher. My feelings are so natural around him, whereas with Finn everything almost felt forced because everyone was expecting us to be together. I mean, even Gia assumed we were together. I practically felt like I had to like him because everyone else thought I did, but that's no way to go into a relationship. I wouldn't want to date Finn if I wasn't feeling 100% real feelings for him.
With Asher I feel more free to just feel what I feel. It started with a glance in the mall and daydreams in class, but there's a great possibility it could grow to be even more. Rory gave me a hug after admitting to her that she might be right, and we walked into the gym together.
I spent a lot of our practice time whispering to her my plan for the night. I'd take him to the pizza shop just a few blocks down the road, then maybe drive him around for a little and casually drive past my house. I told Rory I'm going to keep it short and simple tonight, that way I could schedule a follow up for more fun in Brookstown, and hopefully he'd be left wanting more.
When practice ended, I went to the locker room to freshen up before meeting Asher. Rory came up to me and gave me a hug from behind. "Go get 'em tiger. Text me later how it goes" She picked up her bags and walked out.
This is it. I have to do this on my own. I feel nervous, but not necessarily worried. First of all, it's not a date, so it's not super serious. Second of all, I normally act fine around Asher, with the occasional awkward moment.
When I was all ready to go, I walked out to my car and saw Asher parked all the way on the other side of the parking lot. I put my stuff in my car and drove over to where he was leaning up against his car, one foot on the ground and one propped up against the car door.
