"Wow, what an exciting night for you, Sadie!" Sophia exclaimed as I finished telling her every detail of my night tonight. I made sure to emphasize the part where it was not a date. "Well, what do you think?" I asked, sitting on the edge of her bed.
"Well, it sure sounds like you two hit it off pretty good. I'd say you're moving a lot quicker with Asher than with Finn." I cut her off and said "That's because I never truly liked Finn. With Asher it might be different." She nodded in agreement and continued. "He definitely wants to hang out with you again, and it sounds like he was being pretty flirty, but you can never tell right off the bat. It could just be his natural personality. Try and take notice of how he talks to other people, especially girls, and see if it's any different with you."
"Good point." I nod, taking in all this good advice.
"Don't take things too fast though, because if it is just his natural personality and he doesn't really like you like that, you could end up hurt, kind of like how Finn was with you, except now you're Finn and Asher is you. If that makes sense." I scratch my chin and think. "So if he doesn't like me back, you're saying I'd be the one wanting more from our relationship and he'd be the one turning me down, and I'd get stuck in the friendzone." Sophia nodded. "Exactly. So just take it slow and see where it goes. Don't rush into it too quickly. Speaking of Finn, does he know you were hanging out with Asher today?" Ugh, how did I know she was going to ask that.
"No, I didn't mention it to him. I just didn't feel like bringing it up in front of him. I didn't want him to get upset. Not that it's like I was on a real date or anything, but still." I shrugged. I'll tell him eventually if it gets serious, but right now Asher is just a new friend of mine, that's all.
"I think you should tell him, Sadie. You owe it to him to be honest. What if he still likes you? What if he is still following you around all day long hoping you'll give him another chance when in reality you've moved on? You'll just wind up hurting him not once, but twice." Sometimes I hate it when she's right.
"Maybe I will give him another chance eventually, you don't know I won't. I don't know I won't. Everything is up in the air. All I know is that I have a friend Finn and a friend Asher. I could tell him I have a new friend. What's the harm in that?" Sophia sighed and said "Fine, but if you even think there's a possibility of being in a relationship with Asher, you should specify that to Finn. If you're friends for right now, good. Tell Finn that. If it becomes something more, tell Finn that too. It's the right thing to do. No matter who you end up dating, Finn is your friend and you shouldn't lie to him."
"Yeah, you're right. Okay, I'll tell him tomorrow. Thanks for your analysis Soph. You always have the best advice." I give her a hug and head to bed, daydreaming about my next adventure with Asher, and reciting what I'll say to Finn tomorrow until I fall asleep.
Lunch time arrives quickly the next day and it's time for me to spill the beans to Finn. Asher is still sitting by Gia, but he looked at me in the lunch line and gave me a wink, so at least he's not totally under Gia's spell. Rory knows I'm going to tell Finn, so she's ready to help me out if something goes wrong.
Finn plops down next to me and says "Afternoon ladies. How are we today?" He has such an innocent smile. No wonder everybody likes him. I saw at least five different girls talking to him in the lunch line, yet he still sits with the one that turned him down.
"I'm good, how are you Finn?" I'm trying to be extra pleasant now in case he doesn't like what I have to say later.
"I'm doing fine." He takes a look at his burger and takes a big bite. I try to weasel the conversation to get to what I want to say. "So what did you do last night? Anything interesting?" He shrugged and said "Not really, just watched a game on tv. How about you?"
