I was laughing at my Mums jokes, and my Dad was driving, and my sister sat beside me- but I then remembered they weren't even family. I had been with them for almost eighteen years, since I was placed in Foster Care after I was abandoned by my birth parents. I did love these people, with all my heart, but there would always be something that reminded me I was adopted.
"Mum" Hannah asked. "How long until we get to Mystic Falls?" We had decided that we should move away from New York and settle down in a quiet area, but even though Hannah hate it, I couldn't care. I hadn't made close friends at my old school, so it would be better for me here. I then switched off the iPod and looked back up, realising that we had just passed a sign that read 'Mystic Falls, Virginia.' "We're here" Mum said as we approached an old bridge. "Jack" Dad said. I looked at him and he then asked "Looking forward to starting a new life?" I nodded, but he knew that I would rather quit school altogether.
As we approached the bridge, I could see a figure in the middle of the road, a man. I had responded too late and yelled "Look out!" Dad swerved the car to the right and I flung toward Hannah, but before I knew it, the car had tipped over the bridge and fell for the river. My head hit Dads seat but I was okay. I then looked around, and saw that Hannah had passed out and Mum wasn't moving. Dad started shaking her, telling her name continuously, but he broke into tears when he got no response from her pulse. Dad then unbuckled his seat belt and tried to break open the door, but water was already filling up the car. As it rose faster, I reached over to Hannah and unbuckled her seat belt, holding her close.
I could feel fear cording through my body and I then looked at Dad, who held my hand and said "You'll be okay." That wasn't assuring, but I had to seem like I believed him. Within a minute, the water was put to my neck and I only had a few seconds to gasp for breath as the car went full with water. I still held Hannah and grasped Dads hand, feeling the cold touch of his silver ring, but the touch wasn't as cold as the death that neared. I could feel my need for air rising, knowing that any moment now, I would pass out, but as my world darkened, I still held Dads hand tight. Only moments before the world went black, I could hear my door being ripped off and I was being pulled away, with only the grasp of Hannah and my Dad, but I only held onto something cool, something metallic: His ring.
I awoke with a start, and I was in a hospital bed, and I was scared. What happened? I then felt everything returning, all the sadness, despair, and of course, death, returning. I then realised Hannah wasn't near me, but the ring was on the bench beside me. I then jumped from the bed and exited the room, looking down the hall, only just seeing Hannah on a moving hospital bed. I raced there, praying she was okay- but I the saw the life gone from her body. I then fell to the floor, breaking into tears, crying, and knew that I had seen my family die. I had survived the crash. I was still alive.
