Half an hour had passed since I watched Jack vanish into the night along with Klaus, and now, my heart seemed to be torn into pieces. I stepped out of Damon's Ferrari and headed into the boarding house, desiring nothing more than to drown my sorrows in alcohol and try and rid my heart of the pain that would linger there for the rest of eternity. I headed for the fireplace, and even by the blazing fire, my hand could feel the cold touch of the silver ring which Jack had given to me, the only thing I had of him, besides the kiss that I would treasure in my heart, soul and mind for each second of every day, every day of a month and every year and every millennium.
"Are you okay, Katherine?" Elena asked, confronting me. "People would usually say 'I'm fine' just to get people off their backs, but- no. I am far from okay, Elena. The one I love has just bargained my freedom for his eternal imprisonment to the man who killed my family and has been chasing me for most of my life. I hate myself for letting him go like that." Damon then entered the room and then said "Teen vampire drama." I blink few times, a tear or two dropping to the floor, and my heart began aching, a lot more painfully than it did when I saw Stefan dead on the road back in 1864. "Damon," Caroline began as she entered. 'Why don't you go carve yourself a stake and shove it right up your-" Caroline paused when Bonnie walked into the lounge room with Tyler, Stefan, Jeremy and Matt, who then took their places upon the couch or chairs.
"Wow, in only two days, we met the son of Klaus, got attacked by hunters, saw ghosts and Katherine fell in love. Our lives are screwed up" Tyler claimed, but no one could protest, for he was absolutely right. "Katherine" Jeremy began,. My eyes headed toward him, and he then said "If you love Jack that much, why don;t you just go to Klaus and bargain your freedom back for him." I was puzzled. "You think I should go to Klaus, trade Jack back in exchange for my freedom, only then will Klaus set his Hybrids out to kill me. Thank you for the suggestion, but it won't work, not if it means seeing Jack for three seconds and then bolting for my life." Matt then suggested "Why not run with Jack?" I look at him, and Stefan then explains "It would be a good plan. You could be with Jack for the rest of your lives- even if it means being chased down by the walking Devil." I then reply "That isn't a good plan if it means dragging Jack into it all and possibly getting him killed."
I then look down at the ring, feeling the warm touch of Jack fading into the world. but only just a second before another tear drop trickled to the floor, the door flung open, and all eyes turn toward the heavy oak door as it hit the wall with a thud, and then, Klaus walks in beside Rebekah, and Rebekah asks "Where is he?"
