A/N: TW: mentions of executions, not really angst- but may have some ideas which relate to it. Enjoy!
Sun approached the entryway of the palace, a guard on both sides dragging him slightly, he had been caught attempting to steal during the festivities. The sandstone arch was golden in the scorching heat of the desert. The entrance was heavily guarded by otherworldly beings that were probably strong enough to destroy their entire planet, with reason (at least- hopefully.. with reason...). Sun knew that they would throw him in front of their Monarch to be judged. He also knew that he would likely take his last breath today. Sun had been raised as a peasant beggar in the Great Desert that they called home, truthfully, it was a ruthless land and was ripe with criminals and crime anywhere you looked, it was simply bad luck that Sun had been caught. When Sun was a small child, his parents and the other beggars took joined notice of Sun's natural stealth and agility, nicknaming him Blood-Shadow for his abilities and naturally fire-ish colours. The bandits that travelled through the desert, robbing anyone that they could, blind, also noticed his abilities, they swore that if they could take Sun, train him and have him as a member of their group. That they would leave Sun's home village to thrive, IF he could pass their test- to steal a visiting noble's gem filled necklace.. and sure enough, that night Sun returned with the necklace, proudly placing it in the (fairly shocked) leader's palm. Thoroughly impressed- the gang took Sun, inevitably leading to Sun leaving his hometown to join them all around the Great Desert. He was 3 when he stole his first gem and 4 when the gang took him, now, he was 18, many people from his hometown did not make it so far- and Sun felt privileged. This particular attempt of his wasn't a job, luckily for Sun, instead he had seen a rather large necklace in a window and decided to attempt to steal it. He didn't know at the time, of course, that the necklace belonged to the Monarch, and that it was there to present to him when he came to collect it later that day. Though in hindsight, it probably wasn't very smart to commit a crime in the middle of the capital during a festival- Sun was bargaining on the crowds being a distraction, but evidently, he was very wrong. They weren't far from the courtyard of the Palace now- there was big stage like area in the courtyard, where the Monarch would often carry out executions, He was known for being ruthless and cruel as a leader- not fearing death or war, it caused all of the kingdoms in their world to be terrified of him. And if you asked anybody in the Great Desert- they would say rightly so. Sun gulped as he was thrown onto the centre of the decently sized stage, arms bound behind his back and pushed onto his knees. The loud chatter died down as the people took notice of Sun's presence. The guards had left him now. Then he heard gasps as people saw their Monarch approach- likely informed of Sun's attempted crime and location. Sun bowed his head, shutting his eyes in fear, and respect for the Monarch, who was nearly infront of him by then. He felt the cold metal tip of a blade against his neck, lifting his head up slowly. Sun could feel that the blade was of a strong and talented craft, from a skilled smith and was likely a ceremonial sword. He heard a thinking hum from the Monarch, before the blade was removed from his throat, he heard the Monarch beckon over a guard telling him to take Sun somewhere else. Sun didn't hear where exactly, filling him with anxiety. A straw bag was placed over his head and he was knocked out. When Sun came to- he still couldn't see his surroundings and panicked slightly before hearing the door to the room open. "So..." it began, "you are the pitiful creature that tried to steal my jewellery?.." the voice was smooth and deep, if it was physical, it would feel like expensive silks wrapping around your body in a gentle embrace. It calmed Sun, even if he knew that he should be feeling anything but calm at the moment. The straw bag over his head was yanked off smoothly by the voice's owner- by no surprise, it was the Monarch, now intently staring and almost studying Sun- as he sat there still mostly helpless- at least now he could see. And what he did see, shocked him. He was inside of the palace, and incredibly, he was also in the Monarch's main chamber- with a balcony looking out over the capital, and a grand bed covered in velvet sheets and pillows of silk, lifted off of the ground by about two metres. A ladder of rope to climb up to it. Oddly enough- half of the bed was a crimson red, not unlike the shade of blood. While the other half was a cool sky blue- Sun's examination of the room did not go unnoticed by the Monarch- of course. "Aren't you a curious one? Others would be screaming and pleading for their lives by now- and yet.. you are not. Just as you did not while being presented to me on stage." He had a matter-of-fact tone with perhaps a hint of intrigue? Sun concluded that the Monarch was not used to people not fearing him, that is definitely what had interested him about Sun. Sun, however was unaware of just how right he was- but the Monarch was not keen on telling Sun about his affairs. Not just yet...
A/N: A little idea that I had, inspired by ancient Egyptians, but not too heavily! It was fun to write it, and I finally have a little more Eclipse in this book! Probably will write a second part to this one for the fun! Hope you have a good day/afternoon/night!! -Alireta
