A/N: Two in a day! I'll start doing other stories now, maybe some with blood moon too! I hope you have a great day/afternoon/night!
Moon had been working with Eclipse for the whole night- which was neither of their intentions, but here they were. Turns out- being two of the same endangered species allowed for a ridiculous amount of knowledge and conversations to be shared-
They were worried about how they had lost track of time when Moon stared up at the top of the cove, quickly realising the immense amount of storm clouds which had corrupted the sky. He tapped Eclipse on the shoulder- who had been looking for a trinket that he wanted to show and check with Moon, but when he looked up, he didn't want the trinket anymore. Instead- for seemingly no reason- he dragged himself over to the wall opposite them. He grabbed a fairly sized backpack and began- climbing up the wall?! Moon knew that he could- just not that Eclipse could-
The look on Moon's face must have been incredibly amusing, seeing as he heard Eclipse laugh at him suddenly from somewhere high above them. Honestly- Moon had no idea when Eclipse had learned to rock climb. But he did know that whatever was in that bag of his was the first thing that he had worked on at the beginning of the night. Must be something important? Maybe protection from outside? A safeguard in case any rain or debris tried to smuggle its way into their shelter?
Moon was not only right- he was also underestimating the sheer amount of protection that bag had inside of it. He was expecting a small umbrella item that Eclipse would hook up to cover the gap. But no- first, Eclipse hung up a net, anchoring it to the edges of the opening. Then he took out a large, metal infused tarp that covered the entire dome of their cove. Lastly- Eclipse reinforced it with a weird layer that made the other two nearly invisible- like there was nothing there at all-
Eclipse laughed as he descended the walls of the cove again, his investigations and researches that he had conducted definitely payed off now. Moon had a completely baffled expression and was staring blindly up at where Eclipse had been a few minutes ago, eyes wide with amazement and jaw dropped. Eclipse came up to him- surprised that his new friend still hadn't snapped out of wherever trance he had accidentally put him in- he grabbed Moon's chin.. "etch a drawing- it'll last longer!" Moon shook his head suddenly, closing his mouth and stuttering out an apology of sorts- he stopped trying after a short moment, laughing instead just as Eclipse had.
Unfortunately for them- their joy was cut short when an ear splitting smack of thunder shook their cove, effectively terrifying up the two younger siblings- who immediately clung to each other for dear life and began screaming as loud as possible. Which wasn't very loud, seeing that they were both on land and also young. Nonetheless, the two elder brothers frowned deeply at the sheer horror they could hear in the younger's voices, the tears only making them feel worse.
The two went over to their little siblings and pulled them into a tight embrace, blocking their view of the large cove, letting them focus on the duo now protecting them from the noises outside. Sun and Lunar's eyes squeezed shut as they changed from clinging to each other to clinging to their brothers, allowing themselves to cry softly onto their shoulders.
Moon and Eclipse held them before they began rolling gently into the water in the cove. The held their siblings as the swam down into the cove. It wasn't deep but it was deep enough so that the storm couldn't be heard by the smaller sirens anymore. They took some shaky breaths before they opened their eyes, looking around before visibly relaxing at the realisation that they were in water again. They recovered from their panic quickly and began playing again underwater to ease any nerves of theirs that remained.
Moon and Eclipse shared a laugh at Sun and Lunar's antics, only mildly concerned about their extreme mood swing.
"So, Eclipse? How did you and your brother end up here?" Eclipse scoffed slightly "we were next to each other when we hatched. We figured that the similarities between us meant that we were brothers and off we went. No family. No guidance. Just us and the open ocean." He looked away from Moon as he explained "what about you and Lunar? How did you end up travelling the seas?" Moon had barely processed Eclipse's answer before he replied as well.
"We hatched without family too, we saw our markings and thought they we must be siblings as well.. we went off to wonder soon after we realised that there was no one else there, there were to other eggs though. They had already hatched so we looked around before we left." Could those have been Eclipse and Sun's eggs? How? Moon was pretty sure that Eclipse was wondering the same thing based on his dumbfounded expression.
"When we left, we found a wreck of some kind pretty close by- there were some blue scales not unlike yours and Lunar's laying on the ocean bed, there was some blood in the wreck too, fresh in the current" Moon stared at him in shock "we found a wreck too. Lunar immediately caught his tail on an edge, he cut it pretty badly and he still had a scar, the scales around the cut were torn off.. but Lunar fled in his panic so I had to swim after him to make sure he was alright..."
"I still have those scales." Eclipse blurted out. "you what" Eclipse couldn't tell if Moon was offended or not at his words but it was true "Sun insisted that we collected them. He said that we could keep them as proof that we weren't the only ones if we ever doubted it" he stared at his brother as he spoke. "Let us see them. Please.." Eclipse nodded.
"Sun! Help me get that satchel of scales that you made when we were little!" Sun froze mid-game and went to retrieve the from his bag, his bag.
Oh no...
"Uhh brother? I think that just maybe, possibly.. probably... they fell off of me when Moon and Lunar took us?" What.
"What do you mean they fell off?!" Sun whimpered at his brothers anger and Lunar laughed at them, Moon quickly silenced him. Lunar huffed as he swam off "I'm sorry about Lunar- he doesn't always act like people think he should.." Eclipse had taken a breath and also apologised to both Moon and Sun, who gladly accepted his brother not being angry.
They heard a soft tapping sound as Lunar threw down a small bag with a Sun embroidered onto it with small yellow shells and pebbles. The other three stared at him in shock "I saw the blue glinting from inside of it while Moon was trying to get you guys to calm down. I grabbed it cause it was interesting, I took them from Sun.. I'm sorry" though Moon would definitely lecture him about taking things that weren't his later, he was happy that his brother returned the bag, even if the scales in it were his.
Sure enough, the four took out the scales after their minor heart attack of losing them and checked Lunar's scar, comparing the shades.. they were his.. Lunar's... Sun inspected Lunar's body. He checked him all over before finding what he was looking for, he dragged Lunar over to Eclipse despite Lunar's protests. Moon came over too.
"We come from the same pod. Look- this scale marking shows that we are from common pod, but this one here? That one shows the markings of your parents. We aren't brothers- but we are pod-family" Eclipse, Moon and Lunar looked at him in utter surprise "how do you know that?" Urged Moon approaching Sun "the wreck these scales were in used to be a building used by other Mers, that info was in one of the books in the building! I was too small to take it back then.. but maybe if all four of us go back now, since we're older and bigger- maybe we could find out our real origins? Maybe other pods..."
The four were excited out of their minds at the idea, they made plans to travel back to where this all began. First, they'd have to make it through the storm. Then they could finally go home. They were pod-family- that was something that none of them ever thought they would be able to say, it made sense! They spoke a common tongue and they looked fairly similar, other than colour of course. Maybe there was more to their pod than meets the eye. They all hoped so.
