*************************************

Before you married Tommy Shelby you lived in London. More specifically you lived with your grandfather and uncle, both men were gangsters in their own right. They were top rank in a gang of men who were ruthless and unforgiving. You grew up in that world, as a child you used to take money back and forth. The older you got the more responsibility they rested upon you until you were able to hold your own. Then you met Thomas Shelby, purely by accident.

He had a meeting with your uncle and you had sat in. You had gone your entire life not being the slightest bit bothered with men. All the ones you met were demeaning, they saw a young woman who could take care of herself and felt the immediate need to try in put you in your place. That never sat well with you and so you had never tried to find someone worthy of loving. Until you met Tommy.

When you were certain what you had with Tommy was worth it you and he moved back to his home in Birmingham. It was here that you became a rather instrumental part of his family. And it was here, on your wedding night, that a fight broke out.

"I just don't want anything to go wrong." Tommy commented, taking another drag of his cigarette. He'd been standing outside chain smoking for so long that there was a pile gathering.

"It'll be fine Tommy," you kissed his cheek reassuringly. You didn't want to hurt his feelings by saying it but this was a wedding celebration being thrown by the Peaky Blinders, you're expectation for a quiet evening was almost non-existent.

"I'm going to talk to the boys again. Have a chat and make sure we're clear." Tommy insisted, tossing his cigarette to the ground.

"Tommy, just relax and enjoy the evening." You replied.

"I'll enjoy the evening when it's over and everyone's left us alone." He commented on his way out the door.

Earlier in the afternoon you'd been married at the church. It was a quiet ceremony, hardly half the people who attended reception tonight had bothered with the funeral. That was your side though, they showed up for the free food but couldn't be troubled with church. You didn't mind it, and neither did Tommy, but now as the house filled with guests he worried that something would ruin the evening he had planned for you.

While he left in search of his brothers you went inside to find your grandfather. He had made the trek down to Birmingham last night and, because he was ill, he was planning on staying in Birmingham with you until he passed away.

"It won't be long now," was the phrase he had repeated so many times you felt like it was the only sentence you knew.

You took a seat at your grandfather's table. Your uncle had gotten up to dance with someone and the rest of your family was mingling with other guests, leaving your grandfather at a table alone.

"Hi grandda, how're you enjoying the party?" You asked, taking a seat beside him.

As you spoke with your grandfather about your future in Birmingham you were distracted by sounds from outside. The noises outside seemed to shake the room, drowning out the music in the hall. You stood and helped your grandfather up, taking him quickly to the kitchen where he would be safe. Tommy was just coming up the stairs and stopped you before you could walk passed him.
