somewhat based on the song "sometimes" and "love and hate" by camylio
"you know what? i'm just going to buy a coffee and get home. i still have a few things to catch up on. you guys go have fun."
the ding of the door sounds as you enter the coffee shop. inside wasn't as busy as it usually was, which was perfect for you to breathe.
you went to order your drink. while you waited, your eyes scanned around.
this shop used to be your favourite place. you haven't really come back here since... since-
your eyes reach a couple at a window table. your eyes stay glued to the back of the male's head. he seems to have just arrived, and you could just barely hear his words.
"are you daeun?"
"are you y/n?"
the girl looks up and you turn your head back to the front, almost missing her yes if you hadn't been paying attention. you got your coffee and were about to exit the door as you planned. but your eyes travel back to the couple. they were getting ready to leave so you quickly exit the shop.
as you sat in the taxi on the way home, you frown as you thought back to the coffee shop. you could have turned your head faster to miss the sight of the male's face. to miss the way his eyes reached yours as you awkwardly looked at them.
"yes. then, you're chan... right? o-oh you can sit down."
chan laughs. "yes, i'm lee chan."
you help but smile now at the memory you have always hated before for sounding so awkward.
but your frown returns.
'there's no doubt. that was him.'
you loved and hated the coffee shop. the place you met chan for the first time. the place you celebrated each anniversary. the place you shared your plans for the future. the future that can only taunt you in your dreams now. it was full of memories, happy memories that don't make one as happy thinking about them.
the shop wasn't near your home at all. so why, out of all the places you could've chosen to be dropped off at, you chose the coffee shop that grew alongside your now-dead relationship? seems like a few months really changes a shop.
the shop was fairly new when you met chan there. your friend had set you up on a blind date which you decided to go on. it was you who chose the location as at that time, it was close to your campus.
and now that choice led it to be your most haunted place which brought you to face one of the many brick walls in the maze known as your life path.
it was nice to see that chan was moving on and meeting new people. and you can only hope she could be the one he trusts. but that thought only made you think what it would've been like if she was still you.
you wonder if one day, you could be like him. if you could just let go of your past and move on.
it really is unfair. unfair how you thought you could move on without seeing him again. unfair how you thought you had just moved on. unfair how life throws you in the path to make you see the boy nicknamed dino again. as if to laugh in your face, telling you that you're still stuck in the past.
this was the first time seeing him months after your break up. and it was with someone else. so how many times could this have happened before? were you the only one who can't even find it to go out with friends?
though it pains you, you're glad he's happy. you just wish he was happy with you.
maybe sometimes love just isn't enough. sometimes you need to separate from one person to find someone even better. but why are you still hung up on someone you parted ways with months ago?
'not even just months... it's almost been a year. the coffee shop, where we first met; i guess it's also where our story ends.'
