A bit of an emotional chapter, but an important one at that.

Bzzzzz.... Bzzzzz

Your alarm goes off, causing you to groan. You were feeling the effects of what could have only been a hangover. You have a spotty memory of last night, but you have vague memories of drinking yourself away. You're alarm continues on.

Bzzzzz.... Bzzzzz

You move over to dismiss it and grab your phone from your nightstand. As you reach for it, multiple notifications buzz. You think nothing of it until another round of buzzes ensues. You snatch your phone and see Twitter notifications flood your inbox.

"What did I do??" you ask yourself.

You open Twitter and see that the notifications were all coming from a reply you made to the 100Thieves tweet. This was quite surprising as one of the few things you did remember was the fact that you made the decision NOT to reply.

But there it was, 2.7k likes and counting...

Goddamn!

The tweet you replied to announced they were looking for "Up and Coming or Aspiring Filmmakers for a position with 100Thieves." As it turned out, 100Thieves had seen other orgs venture out into other forms of entertainment and made the decision to do so as well.

The document linked in the tweet stated the ground rules. You must be 21 years or older. Check. You must have at least an undergrad degree in filmmaking. Check. And you also were required to have a portfolio with all of your prior experience.

Your reply was by far the top reply.

You could only hope that somewhat mattered when it came to the decision process. It also helped that your portfolio was impressive for the short period in which you were active. Compared to most of the other replies, your portfolio was fantastic. There were a few contenders, but for once, you felt hope, like your work meant something for once...

You are interrupted by the sound of the front door closing. You watch as your mom walks through the door and you both are startled.

"Oh honey! I didn't expect you to be home so soon? How was your night?" She asks.

"Yeah mom it was... great! We had a great time!"

She nods in approval but quickly notices the multitude of beer cans behind you that lay across the living room floor and on the couch

She gives you a look. You'd seen it all too much before. No matter what you did, you always seemed to disappoint her.

"It's not healthy for you to stay cooped up here all the time... I-" she stops suddenly and drops her head

"I love you... I want the best for you. I understand things are difficult, but I just wanna help..."

The words crush your soul. Your own mother could even see how pitiful you had become.

"I worry for you... You know your dad's family has a history..." she halts again. You know exactly what she's referring to.

"I know mom. I'm looking at work and options to go back. I don't wanna be a burden anymore..."

You two share an emotional experience as she wraps her arms around you.

"You aren't a burden to me... you never will be"

You try to find words to say back but are choked up all too quickly to respond. Instead you just hug her tighter.

But just as you find yourself nearly weeping, you feel yet another buzz from your phone. And you see it's a dm request from none other than Nadeshot himself. He gives you an offer to visit the compound so they can decide if you're fit for the job.... This is the chance you'd been waiting for.

You don't know what to do besides hug your mom again. With tears falling down your face, you manage to speak.

"That was a job offer, mom... It's all gonna be okay..."

And for the first time in a while, you witness her smile. Everything was going to be okay, as long as you nailed this opportunity. It's a long shot, but it's all you've got.
