Eunjin POVMy parents arrive first and shortly after his as well. I control my breathing. As I finished saying hi to my parents, I hold my breath for my future mother in law.
"Hi, Eunjin, pleased to see you." My future father in law says hugging me first before saying hi to the others before sitting down.
"Hi, Mrs Lee," I said formally before bowing.
She just waves me off before purposefully hitting my shoulder going past me to sit next to her husband.
It's going to be ok Eunjin, just get through this. I settle myself next to Sungho, the table in a U shape. Sungho and his family on the right, mine on the left.
There was some small talk but I definitely could tell the minor tension around the table.
"So honey how's the wedding coming along?" My father curiously asks. I gulp, be considerate, pretend Sungho came up with some stuff.
"It's going great, got the guest list and budgeting, currently figuring out the venues and date of the wedding." I smile, proud of myself.
"Just that in a month?" I heard a scoff in the corner. Please, it's only been 15 minutes, can we at least get through drinks.
"I'm sorry?" I questioned, stalling time and maybe to calm myself.
"My baby if you really wanted to be husband and wife, wouldn't you have the wedding done already?" She turns to Sungho, give some type of puppy eyes. She ignores me as usual.
"Weddings take time, Mom, of course I want that to happen but we are working hard to arrange everything."
We? Please. I smile and look at him. I hate this, I faking my own life. Lying about this whole thing, it's painful. At least he defended me.
"Well, it better be good, I'm helping pay for it anyways." She rolls her eyes the sighs. I bite my lip, taking deep breaths.
"Where are you planning on having it?" My step mom, wonders. At least I have this lovely family.
"Either a beach, grand cathedral, or a glass botanical greenhouse, those are the options I- We've been looking into." Almost slipped up there.
"I want a forest, do a cabin, camping area, I think that would be better than whatever you said." I sigh.
"I'll think about it, I just don't want people to walk in the mud or have to reschedule because of rain." I reason out. I don't want to be wedded in a forest I have considered it but not my cup of tea.
"No, you won't, you don't care about anything I suggest. So selfish." She accuses. I bite my tongue. What the actual heck is she on about?
"Sweetheart, we are entitled to our own opinion, it's their day." I love you Mr Lee. I don't know how you married this devil.
Mr Lee, once a while put her down, he really did like me a lot. Such a kind man, although would shut me down when I raised my voice at her. I genuinely learned the meaning of patience from this excuse of a mother. I had to say things respectfully, and talk it out even though she is closed minded.
"I think I am entitled to doing some other things if I am paying." Like mother like son, ridiculous.
"Mrs Lee I-" I tried to barge in but..
"No, shut it, since I am helping I can at least give my opinion." I sigh, I guess she is mildly right, not that I am going to processes it through my brain.
"Drinks for tonight?" The waiter asks, pulling out her writing pad.
Everyone orders until she speaks, "How old are you..." She squints, "Yeri?" Then smiles at her. Are you serious now?
"I am 22 Ma'am," Yeri politely answers back. I simply see how this unravels already knowing the outcome.
"Would you be interested into dating my son?" The devil shamelessly smiles. I thought this dinner was to get closer and talk about the wedding?
"No thank you Ma'am, I have a boyfriend." The blonde women bows to show her apology, "And it seems he is already taken." She glances at me then at my ring and his as well.
She growls and waves her off. Yeri briefly eyes me with an apologetic smile before walking away to do her job.
"Stupid," The bitch rolls her eyes and sulks. Nice try, I wouldn't be surprised if she objected the wedding. I don't even want to send her an invitation.
"Anymore questions about the wedding or some suggestions?" I ask around the table, soon enough we keep talking about other things.
Later after we order food, I stand to go to the bathroom.
After doing my business I am washing my hands. Then the door opens to reveal the devil herself.
"Why are you so adamant with my son? He deserves better than a low class girl. I will never understand it." She scoffs going to wash her hands.
"I will never understand how a parent won't accept their child's happiness but I guess we can't have everything can we?" I shake my head drying my hands with a paper towel.
"I am his mother, I know what he wants." Sure, you know what he wants.
"And I just want peace in this maybe possible friendship. We've had this same quarrel forever. I'm tired aren't you?" I sighed leaning against the sink.
She rolls her eyes as she now retouches her makeup after she was done washing her hands.
"Ms Lee, I admire your stubbornness to make it this far. But I am staying and there is nothing you can do about it than sulk in your lonely chair knowing you failed. This is me trying but knowing you it doesn't matter. Please let us be happy. If anything for your son. I'm sure you want grandbabies." I grab my purse exiting out the door before she says anything further to piss me off.
Dinner was fine the rest of the time, her being silent.
I hope something got through to her.
