Shadow sat in his dark room.

His phone kept lighting up every time he got a text.

A buzz would accompany it sometimes, but when the notifications happened to often, the buzz wouldn't even sound.

He looked at his phone, not moving from his current position.

He watched the messages stack on top of each other.

Ever since Sonic got added to that group chat, it was so active.

It was somewhat active before, usually a new text every day or every other day.

But this was almost every minute.

Sonic was having conversations with all of them... all the time.

And yet he was never mentioned.

He tried not to mind, but he did want to be included.

Shadow was more of an outcast, only having immediate friends now.

That friend group was all that he got, and he wasn't going to try to make any new friends any time soon.

But when Sonic came around, it was different.

The first thing that he noticed was how similar he and himself looked.

Shadow was probably a little bit taller just due to age, but over that, they looked identical.

Sonic was interesting to him.

The friend group hadn't expanded in a few years.

The newest additions before Sonic were Silver and Blaze.

Shadow never really got along with either of them.

It was just Rouge, Knuckles, and Amy that he could tolerate the best.

But Sonic... he had something to him.

Shadow kept thinking about him as if he was a new game release.

But he always looked so confused and uncomfortable with the group.

Of course, he didn't know what he was like when Shadow wasn't there, but he assumed that he was the same.

He knew that he was going to have to make friends with him eventually if they were all going to get along.

And for once, Shadow seemed to be fine with this idea.

Having someone with a confident personality is hard to come by, especially in high school.

It would've been easier if Shadow didn't drop out.

He could've been hanging out with all of them right now.

It wouldn't be weird to be getting to know Sonic during lunch or before school.

Shadow thought about appearing during lunch, as it was something that he could totally do.

But he had never done it before.

And he definitely didn't want anyone to know his motive for doing so.

Him doing it so randomly just for some junior.

He had to figure out another way where he could talk and get to know him.

He at least didn't want Sonic to look uncomfortable around him, that was his goal for the next month.

Shadow grabbed his phone, unlocking it and scrolling to the top of where the messages began.

He read through their conversations.
