Chicago Med

Everyone sat in the waiting room silently waiting for answers a few hours had gone by and there'd been no updates despite Will going back to try to get answers but nobody was saying much. That's when Dr. Rhodes walked through the doors and into the room, "Zoey Halstead?" he said as Jay walked over and everyone stood up getting closer to hear the update. "The surgery was successful and we managed to stop the bleeding for now. The bullet missed her heart by a hair she's extremely lucky, but she'd not out of the woods just yet the next 24 hours are the most critical. She's currently heavily sedated and in the ICU recovering." Dr. Rhodes said.

"Can I see her?" Jay asked him as he nodded and the detective walked through the doors heading towards the elevator heading towards the ICU. The minute April saw him running down the hall she knew he was here for his wife who was a regular at Med over the years due to her job. "She's in 609," April told him as the detective nodded at her and ran to the room freezing in the doorway as he saw his wife laying in a hospital bed with a tube shoved down her throat to help her breathe. The sight broke Jay In the years he knew his wife most of their time was spent in this hospital due to her job. The detective walked over and took a seat next to her bed taking her hand in his. "I'm so sorry Zo, I'm sorry I wasn't there. I should have came inside with you instead of going back to work, I should've been there to protect you," Jay's voice was shaky as he held his wife's hand.

The Bau and intelligence team stood in the waiting room when Anderson one of the many agent's working with the Bau. "What do we know?" Hotch asked Anderson an agent from the FBI's Chicago field office. "Local Pd said they broke the back window in and came through the fire escape and surprised her in the living room, they were probably laying in wait for her. After she was- it appears she dialled 9-1-1 herself before she passed out," Anderson said.

"Why weren't we notified?" Rossi asked in almost disbelief, "The offender apparently took her ID and Gun the uniforms I talked to didn't even know she was in the bureau until I arrived on scene" Anderson replied. "Get back over there, this is a federal crime scene nobody touches anything and we process it. GO" Hotch told him as Anderson started bolting towards the exit. "Yes sir" was all he said before disappearing. "I'll head over there, not much I can do here anyways," Detective Upton said standing up from her seat. "I'll go come with you," Detective Ruzek said as the two stood up and started walking to the exit. "Why don't Prentiss and I go instead and see what we can find," Rossi suggested thinking back to what their unsub said. "One rule, stay within the team for this case," Reid said remembering the words due to his eidetic memory.

"With all due respect agent Hotchner, This monster gunned down one of our own, in my detective's apartment, in my city. We are gonna do more than just sit here with our thumbs up our ass." Voight said irritatedly. "If your detectives are going to the scene do it in uniform, blend in with the rest of the local authorities. We don't need anyone else getting hurt," Hotch replied feeling slightly guilty he sent her home in the first place.

Jay's Apartment, Chicago

Detective Upton, Ruzek and agents Rossi and Prentiss walked up the stairs to the apartment that was still open and had Anderson standing in front of the door. The detective's followed the agent's into the room in their uniforms. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until they walked through to the living room where they saw the large pool of blood on the floor.

Rossi looked up at the wall noticing a message written in red, 'ONE RULE' it read in all caps. "Is that?" Adam asked looking at the message and then back to the floor where the pool of blood had clearly been touched. "We need to try to get prints from this," Rossi said as Prentiss pulled out her phone and took photos sending them to Garcia to run prints.

Jay sat holding Zoey's hand, he hadn't left her side since he was allowed to see her. Truth be told he didn't want to leave her side again worried about what would happen. Zoey lay in the bed the only sound she could hear was a distant beeping that sounded like it was coming from miles away. The blonde was surrounded by complete darkness, along with feeling cold to the bone and just so utterly alone.

Am I dead? she asked herself as she was suddenly transported to the beach in Hawaii she recently got married on. Confusion washed over her as she looked around noticing it was eerily empty. Zoey started walking towards the ocean when her eyes landed on 2 figures sitting on the beach. The blonde looked around again noticing nobody else was around except these 2 someone familiar figures.

Zoey walked over to the figures on the beach instantly recognizing Shay and her father sitting in the sand looking out at the waves rolling in and being pulled out by the current. "Shay? Dad? what- Come sit down you lunatic," Shay told her with a smile pulling Zoey to sit in the space between the 2. The blonde sat there with them listening to the waves crash on the shore. "You gotta stop blaming yourself Zo," Shay said from next to her causing the blonde to look up at her. "What happened to us isn't on you princess," her father said wrapping an arm around her. "Don't let your fears stop you from doing what you love," Shay told her as the two stood up.

"Where are you going?" Zoey asked scrambling to her feet, "You'll see us again, but right now you gotta wake up, open your eyes Zoey" Shay said before her best friend and dad vanished along with the beach as everything around her went white. What happened? Zoey thought looking around as the events from Jay's apartment flashed through her mind.

Jay was sitting half asleep in the chair next to Zoey's bed talking to Will as Zoey lay still and unconscious. "Jay you should go get some proper sleep," Will said from the doorway. "I'm not leaving her Will," was all his brother replied. The ginger went to say something when the monitors started beeping a bit faster. The sound caught both sibling's attention as Will walked over to the monitors checking everything over.

Zoey's body shot up as she began to panic, "Hey, babe you're okay. You're at med your safe now" Jay said comforting her as Will ran to the doorway. "CONNOR" he called out to the doctor who ran towards the room. The agent's eyes darted around the room as Dr. Rhodes came running into the room looking toward the woman who was awake.
