21st District Police Department, Chicago
It had been almost a month since Jen's funeral, Jay sat at his desk when Zoey appeared walking up the stairs into the bullpen. "Well, look who's back. Just couldn't stay away huh?" Antonio asked noticing Zoey. "I unpacked and OCD cleaned the house from top to bottom twice this week. I'm going insane sitting at home," she said walking over to her desk and taking a seat. "Agent Halstead, what are you doing here?" Voight asked from the doorway to his office. "I know I'm not cleared to do field work but I could still be useful helping you guys profile cases, Paperwork even," she said. "You hate paperwork," her husband said from his desk looking at her. "Well, it's that or I go online and re-profile the entire mansion family case or look through crime scene photos from Princess Diana's death and try to profile it," the agent replied.
"You must really be bored," Adam said with a laugh, "I'd literally clean out the break room fridge I just can't keep sitting on the couch watching reruns of CSI." she said looking at the sergeant. "DO you know how gross that thing is?" Kim asked her, "Be careful what you wish for," Mouse told her with a smirk. "Fine but you're not leaving this building, and it's strictly desk work only," Voight said as she nodded. "Thank you Serg," Zoey said as Voight turned to walk back in his office but paused. "Would you mind clearing out the fridge though?" he asked her.
Zoey nodded and walked into the break room getting a garbage bag, gloves, 3 different sponges and a ton of bleach products before she pulled open the fridge and threw literally everything out before she started spraying and scrubbing the whole fridge clean within a half hour. "That was fast," Mouse replied, "Image what I could do to a body if I wanted," she replied carrying the garbage out.
"You'd still get caught, they always do," Adam said when she walked back up the stairs. "There are ways to completely dispose of a body," Zoey said walking over and sitting at her desk. "Not without chemicals," Mouse replied. "Not entirely true," the blonde replied. "There are certain animals that will literally eat anything and everything," she added. "Animals can't digest bones and teeth," Jay pointed out. "Pigs can, their omnivores they literally eat everything," Zoey replied.
"How do you know that?" Adam asked her, "There was a case I worked on last year, 11 people went missing from Detroit and were brought across the border and they'd just disappear off the face of the earth with no trace," she replied. "What happened?" Mouse asked her, "We managed to track the case back to a pig farm in Ontario where 2 brothers lived one was a paralyzed sociopath and the other was basically a modern-day Andre the giant that had the mental state of a 5-year-old. It was pretty obvious to us that the paralyzed brother was orchestrating the whole thing manipulating his brother to kidnap these people- what happened to them?" Antonio asked her.
"The brothers or the victims?" Zoey asked, "Both I guess," the detective replied. "Well, the brothers would take the victims and do human experiments on them to try to fix the paralyzed brother who would watch his brother do these experiments through mirrors around his house. afterward, the victims would get hacked up and their bodies would be scattered in the pig pens where they would devour everything... like everything" Zoey replied. "So how did you figure out these two brothers were behind the missing people if you had no evidence?" Jay asked confused.
"We found this massive wooden container full of various bloody shoes, 90 of them. Different styles, sizes, men, and woman's. They'd been doing this for years before we found out." Zoey said. "What kind of experiments could possibly cure paralysis?" Adam asked. "What happened to the brothers?" Jay asked. "Well the mentally delayed one got scared and tried to run at Morgan and he got shot and the paralyzed brother that orchestrated the whole thing well... He got gunned down by a war hero, who brought the case to our attention in the first place," Zoey replied.
Jay and Mouse's facial expressions saddened, "How'd he bring the case to your attention?" Kim asked confused. "Well, he erm... Crossed the boarder into Canada and turned his car around and drove through the guard post and claimed he murdered 10 people and said he'd only talk to the FBI," she replied. "What?!" Adam said shocked, "And you guys just didn't believe he did it or?" Antonio asked surprised. "He waited until the guard post of empty before he drove through it. He didn't kill anyone or hurt anyone he wanted someone to look into the disappearances especially when his sister was one of the victims, he lost his leg serving in Afghanistan and came home to find out his sister was living on the streets. He found her once and brought her home and gave her his dog tags for good luck, 2 weeks later she went back to the streets and he never saw her again." Zoey said sadly.
"We found the dog tags in the pig pen, they couldn't digest the metal but he lost it when he overheard that the paralyzed brother wouldn't face any time because proving a paralyzed sociopath organized this whole thing and manipulated a clearly mentally incapable person to do their dirty work would be next to impossible to prove. So whe he got a chance he found a shotgun one of the local authorities left out and walked in and just... shot him" The blonde said spinning in her desk chair.
"And a man that should be recognized as a hero is sitting in a federal prison in Canada for the rest of his life," she replied sadly. "You never told me about that case," Jay said, "That's because I just found out you were still married while I was in the middle of that case," she replied. "I told you I signed the papers and Abby just didn't file them," her husband replied causing the others to laugh. "I was more upset you didn't tell me, I had to get a call from my insane ex telling me I was a home wrecker," Zoey said. "And you just trusted the word of a hit man?" Jay remarked, "No, I asked Garcia to pull marriage certificates across the country and even though Interpol, Vicap, Kotus she found it in less than 10 seconds, by the way," Zoey replied.
"That woman terrifies me sometimes," Jay replied, "She is a cyber god, that you don't wanna reckon with," Zoey replied looking at Mouse. "I'm just glad she didn't wipe my hard drive," Mouse said. "She would've too if she wasn't drooling over you," Jay muttered with a smirk causing Zoey to smirk at the comment. "Wait what?" Mouse said confused causing the room to start laughing. Zoey wrote something down and walked over setting it in front of Mouse who was still cluelessly lost about the conversation as she set the number on the desk in front of him. "Call her, or don't," Zoey said before walking towards the break room to make a cup of coffee leaving Mouse to think over her words.
