A/N: Hello, friends! I was on track for getting this episode out at the end of last month, but then I decided to add a section to this chapter that required me to then rework like half the chapter... it's been a fun week and half. ANYWAYS, we're back! And I'm super proud of where this is all headed. Get ready for some future setups, some past reconciliations, and the closest thing to explicit you'll probably ever get my ass to write. I hope you all enjoy, and please leave your thoughts at the end. It really helps me see if you all are picking up what I'm putting down. Thank you for your continued support and trust for these ladies. This story brings me so much joy to write, so I hope it brings you all even an ounce of the same :)

Also, since the last chapter was posted, we've now hit over 10,000 views on this site. Super cool milestone. Thank you.

We ended up holding out for 12 days. There was a chance for sooner, I suppose. But, looking back on it, I think we did it correctly. We paused and waited and sought and delved until we both saw no other alternative.

It wouldn't have happened without Friday, the day of Alison's first therapy appointment. We spoke the day before and decided that the best path of recourse would be for Alison to have the house to herself during the virtual session. So, I planned my day out to be able to pick up Jacob a little before four so that we could be fully out of her hair as she courageously took this first step. Additionally, we both chose to keep Jacob in the dark for now. He had been doing beautifully since his transfusion but was only a few days out from his chemotherapy prior to his altered blood cells being re-transfused into his bloodstream, and there was no need for us to add any additional thought or potential difficulty onto the shoulders he was already attempting to hold so high.

In typical Jacob fashion, he requested for us to go for ice cream, but in protection of his health, we had to make some brief alternations to keep him from the immediate public. After picking up some pints of ice cream on the way home, we made our way to a nearby park with shade and picnic benches to spend our time. Since the transfusion, Jacob had adopted nearly a new personality. His energy was skyrocketing. His usual mid-day fatigue had dwindled. I loved watching him feel better. His eyes lighting up after running circles around me in the backyard and still having the energy to continue.

It was the middle of March, and I could still count on one hand the times I, alone, had been responsible for Jacob. For as close as our relationship had become, it was still in the early stages of progress. I still became nervous in the moments before we were alone, knowing the weight of this extension of trust from Alison and Carter alike. I doubted that Jacob could feel the tension, but as he approached the bench at the park and immediately chose to stand on top of the seat, my nervousness spiked once again.

"Bug, hop down for me!" I called out, slightly jogging toward him with my hand extended.

I had to appreciate that Jake followed instructions without question, but my heart stopped feet from him as he willingly jumped off before I could reach him. Fortunately, he landed on both his feet. But it was as though my entire world was bound and existed in those moments between the fall and the landing.

Wrapping his legs around either side of the seat, he waddled in toward the middle before facing my side of the bench. "Sowwy, E! Daddy and I play 'The Floor is Wava' at this pawk, so I forget I wif you aday."

I sat down across from him with my eyebrow raised in sincere delight, "The floor is lava? Why can I not picture your father excelling at that game?" I laughed while passing Jacob his spoon and ice cream already opened.

"He teach me the secwets and then hold my hand frough the obsickles."

"Obstacles, sweetie." I smiled sincerely, opening my own ice cream to join him. "I'm happy that we get to spend this afternoon together, J. We don't often get much time together outside of the hospital."
