Jay's Pov

I knew I screwed up.

But when Lottie came in with her phone to her ear and tears streaming down her face as she yelled at me to help, I couldn't just sit still.

So I went with her to Harry's house.

If I had known beforehand...that he was dealing with this on his own, he would've been in my house with my girls, where it was safe. I knew I should've kept him as my own when he was handed to me but something told me that I shouldn't have.

And now, I do realize. Him and Louis; they were soulmates. It was no secret; Louis tried to his mark but he didn't hide it well enough. With Harry, I already knew his mark wouldn't show up unless he was in the water and that was dangerous in itself because every single hunter knows that mermaids, or sirens they call them, don't have marks on their human forms.

When I saw the poor boy beaten so badly and was hanging onto the air he sucked in, I felt rage bubble inside of me. Desmond had found his own adoptive son was really a mermaid.

I knew it; Desmond never truly accepted Harry as his own even when I came to him with little Harry babbling in my arms and he took him in immediately.

Harry looked like his little girl. But he lost her so I thought it would help; I thought Harry would help him.

Desmond had been my own best friend alongside Martha. But he grew colder after Atlantis had fallen and he lost his little girl and beforehand, his wife, who died during childbirth.

Dragging Desmond out of the house put a bitter taste in my mouth. I knew there were a few other hunters in the area and that put me on the spot and on dangerous lines with them now that I was protecting Harry.

Poor Louis as well...I knew he was so confused too. I would have to answer questions later. I needed to talk to the hunters to give Louis and them time to help Harry and hopefully give Harry and Niall both time to find a safe place.

It was pretty obvious that Harry's friend was one, a mermaid. Very obvious to me, especially being around my father and others. My father was one when he met my mom and had me. But hunters got to him when I was younger and my mom took me and we ran away to California and I've been here ever since really.

I put Desmond in the driver's seat, carefully climbing into the passenger side if the car with the gun still to his head.

He gave me a side eyed glare with an angry pout.

"Start the car and take me to the rest of them," I bit out through clenched teeth. My anger was still running high and I didn't have much patience.

Desmond gave me a slight off handed shrug. "I don't know what you're talking about."

I took the gun and swung, hitting him right in the gut with butt of the gun. Desmond lurched forward with a loud painful groan, taking hold of his stomach.

"Put your fucking hands on the steering wheel and start the fucking car," I growled, knocking his head with gun to get him moving. He did so, slowly, a painful look sketching deep wrinkles into his face.

As the car started to move and he took us onto the road, I spoke again. "Now, you know damn well what I'm talking about and we both know who has the gun here so you better take me to the rest of your little gang."

Desmond smiled a little and I was appalled but really shouldn't have been surprised.

"You've really changed, Johannah," he said with a slight bitterness to his tone.

I scoffed. "You're really bold for saying that, honestly, Desmond. Its really a wonder. Have you ever thought to tell Martha why you've cut us off?"

He stayed silent. Checkmate for me.
