Elias
I'm in the brightly lit library once again, silently taking the exam I missed over the last three days. Professor Klein sitting at the front, also dressed in black. Head angled to the desk as he read the book in front of him.
I was nearing the end of the test before I could feel eyes on me. The test section was empty but the shelves were still littered with students. Some that took peaks at me from the shelves whispering to each other.
I sigh and quickly finish the exam, standing from my seat and walking over to Klein, sliding him the test.
"That barely took two hours." He states.
"Go out for sushi." I suggest with a shrug of my shoulders before grabbing my hat off the table and leave the library. Passing the iridescent shelves to find multiple students hiding in the rows before professor Klein shouted at them to vacate the library.
I walk calmly down the stairs of the library and set on the path to my apartment. Speed walking back to the house and not stopping for anyone. An hour later I'm down in the gardens sweating underneath the hat as I worked on planting catnip around the edge of the garden. Dirt and mud getting underneath my fingernails as I worked the afternoon away.
Sitting on my knees as I softly patted the plant into the earth, and I'm so deep in my work that I don't notice the small black nose that was sniffling at my face. I look up at see a common grey wolf sitting in front of me. Rather smaller than a normal wolf, a growing pup.
These wolves weren't like were's or lycans. They were instead used as messenger dogs between packs when times were tough. Some packs still keep them around. I look and see a white collar around his neck. Checking the tag it has a symbol of an engraved Diamond.
"Hi gorgeous. You belong to the diamond house, huh?" I speak softly. I smile at the wolf and reach up petting it's chin. It leans into my touch before pushing its nose in my face to sniff me again. This time the wolf lingers before pouncing on me.
Tackling me on my back and rubbing itself all over me.
"Okay! Okay!" I shout as it settles itself between my splayed legs, resting its head on my chest as I lean up on my arms. "Okay." I say and pet him, the dog seeming to like the attention. For a while I stay there with the wolf in my lap, petting him as the sun passed slowly overhead. It brought an unexpected serenity that I didn't know I needed until now.
For the rest of the afternoon the pup is my companion. Sitting close to me as I work on the catnip. Eventually finishing sometime in the evening, the sun going down as dusk settles in. From the trees I can see the lingering felines resting in the trees, and I smile. As I'm cleaning up the supplies, I hear the sound of grass crunching beneath feet and I turn to see Juni. Back pack in hand as he holds up another plastic bag.
"I invited Opala and Sam." He says.
"Have fun." I say almost completely unaware of what he said, my mind buzzing with too many thoughts to pay attention.
"El?" He places his hand on my shoulder slowly pulling me to face him. I look up from the ground and see him staring at me with empathic eyes. "I got some food from this restaurant in town, I invited Opala and Sam to come eat with us."
"Us?" Confusion hitting me.
"Yeah. You didn't have lunch today. Come eat." He spoke softly. I look back down the ground to see the wolf has disappeared, looking back at Juni as he gently dislodges the hand shovel from my grip. Pulling me by my hand through the back door of the house and riding the elevator up.
"You smell like soil." He giggles.
"It's a natural smell." I quip back but my energy for conversation just wasn't there.
