Author's note:

Hello lovely readers! Its been a loooooong time, I know. Especially for this story here. But the wait for chapter 49 is over and so is the wait for the announcement of the winners of the giveaway!

We have TWO winners! Yeah! 🥳 and they are....

Drumroll please.... 🥁

@astarintexas (222) and @LegendOfLisa1 (216)

The number I picked was 219. Not because its in the middle of 1 and 500, but 2/19 is my sister's birthday and is usually incorporated into a password somehow and I knew I would remember it no matter how much time had passed before getting this chapter out. (Now, don't be getting any ideas about hacking my WP account to see future story notes. LOL)

Fun fact: Both of our winners are named Lisa. (I'll be sending each of you Lisas a private message shortly.)

For those who didn't win and are not named Lisa 😉, your consolation prize is right below. Happy reading!

Previously:

They were lying in bed, Can tracing swirly patterns on Sanem's arm as she stared up at the ceiling. He was in no way tired, despite his international flight and round after round with Sanem. He thought maybe she had fallen asleep after so much silence, but then he heard her voice speak up, "I don't understand."

"Don't understand what?"

"What went wrong. I followed the recipe."

"Sanem, don't worry about it."

"I made a practice batch at Melihat's and they were fine. Well, actually they turned out as flat as a pancake. Even Melihat didn't know how I managed that. But they tasted fine..."

Sanem went to get up, but Can was quick to hold her in place. "Where are you going?"

"To check Melihat's recipe card."

"Not right now you're not. The bed is far too nice."

Sanem hummed and settled back onto his chest. "Much nicer with you in it."

"This settles it. No more trips. We should just stay here forever."

"Well you do have that commercial shoot for the organic juice company. We were fortunate enough to land such a big contract and we can't disappoint."

"But I'll only be gone one night for that, and then I am back in this bed with you." Can kissed the top of her head before he too settled in for what he hoped would be his best night's sleep in two weeks. Unfortunately, the jet lag was keeping him awake and now he was overtired. He gently slipped a sleeping Sanem off his chest and quietly walked to the kitchen for a late night snack.

He smiled seeing the spilled kofta on the dining room floor. He picked up a piece that had managed to stay on the platter and took a small bite, shutting his eyes tight to the spice flooding his taste buds. He laughed quietly to himself as he cleaned up the rest of the pieces.

He heard his phone buzzing from his discarded pants and he was still smiling as he took the phone out of the pocket and looked down at the screen, only for it to fade the second he saw who was calling. Aziz's name on the screen never seemed to bode well. The hour was pretty late for just a social call, not that Aziz had ever called him just to chitchat.

"Good evening, sir."

"Can, is Sanem near you?"

"No, she's asleep. Why...?" He was almost afraid to ask and felt his heart begin to beat faster but that was nothing compared to what Aziz said after.
