Can and Sanem sat on opposite sides of the desk in the bedroom. The past few days had been extremely busy for both of them and they were just now finding time to sit down and work on the broken camera.
Sanem was in awe watching Can and his surprisingly nimble fingers repair the tiniest of pieces. He would look up to see her smiling at him and would flash a smile in return.
Can finally turned the last screw into place, "Let's see if it works. Smile!" Can held up the camera only to lower it back down after the camera beeped, alerting him to something. He flipped open a little side door to see an empty space, "Where's the memory card?"
"Oh no. Did I lose that too?" Sanem grabbed the box to peer inside, but it was empty, "I know I picked it up off the floor... but I-"
"Sanem, of all the pieces to this camera, a memory card is like the cheapest part." He pulled open a drawer and took out a fresh memory card, "But that means no photos of you in that office. Damn. There were some good ones."
"Like you don't already have enough photos of me."
"Never." Can held up the camera once more and snapped a few pictures of Sanem. He looked at the screen on the back to see the images he had captured, and turned it around for Sanem to see too, "Look. Perfect. You and the camera."
"I'm so glad it works. I promise I'll be more careful next time."
Can waved her comment away and then swirled around the tiny black plastic pieces left on the desk, that were way beyond repair, "So what happened to this part? You said you dropped the camera, not threw it on the ground with a vengeance."
Sanem laughed, "You can thank Mr. Miraç for that."
Can's head snapped up, "What?"
"I dropped the camera because he startled me. And then he stepped on that part. By accident.... I think."
"Startled you? What did he do?"
Sanem heard the tension in his voice, "Can, calm down. He didn't do anything. He was just standing behind the door. Although he..."
"He what?"
"He wasn't in the best of moods. He knows about you, Çagri and Güliz branching out. He was mad. But like the eerily quiet kind of mad."
Can just sat there, a frown on his face, looking at the shattered piece. Çağri had already informed him that Miraç had found out about their new company, but had also said he was too involved in his own crumbling business to pay them any attention.
Can hoped that to be true, but in the back of his mind he just kept thinking that a floundering man was a dangerous man.
Sanem waved a hand in front of him to break his trance, "Yoo-hoo... Can. As you can see, I'm fine. So dial down that macho man attitude right now."
