Can and Çağri were on their third, but last tour for that day. Out of all the properties, so far Can liked this one the best. It had natural light, which he knew was important for Sanem as well as himself. He wished she was here to see it for herself and was filled with more self hatred as he thought about why she chose not to come.
Can went to get his camera from his backpack to take photos for her instead, only to remember he left it on the desk. "Could we cut the tour a bit short? I left something at the other office."
"Of course. And Mr. Ersöz apologizes for not being here in person. An emergency came up."
"That's alright. You have been very helpful, Fakir."
They arranged a future date to meet with his boss but Fakir didn't see any reason why this business relationship wouldn't go swimmingly. The assistant would certainly pass on to his employer that these new entrepreneurs were serious, knowledgeable, and a good investment.
The men shook hands and parted ways. On his drive back to get his camera, Can called Dr. Şifa's office to see if Sanem's session was almost over and he could pick her up. But the receptionist told him something he did not expect: that Sanem never showed up for her appointment.
He thanked her for the information and quickly dialed Sanem's number to make sure she was okay. He relaxed the moment she answered but then straightened up when he turned the corner and saw Sanem in front of the building he was headed toward. And she was not alone.
"Hey."
"Uh... hey. I left my camera..." on the desk. But maybe that detail doesn't need to be mentioned.
"Yes, you did leave your camera but I... picked it up."
She sounds weird. Something is off. And who is that guy she's with? Can pulled the car over and from his vantage point he could barely make out Sanem as she was mostly blocked by this tall stranger. "Are you okay? Did your session not work out?"
"Oh... uh... My session? Yes, it went well."
Something is wrong. She's lying. "I can pick you up and drive you to work."
"No. I don't need a ride. I'm... already getting in a taxi. So I'll see you later. Weren't you going to hit the gym too?"
What the hell is going on? She's not getting in a taxi. She's right there. "I wasn't planning on going to gym anymore. I can just come home. I'll make you lunch or something."
"No, you should go. Don't worry about me. I'm just going to work. I'll see you at home tonight."
"Uh... okay. I'll see you at home then. I love you." He was sure to emphasize that last part.
"Okay. I love you too."
The next thing he heard was the phone click off and he watched Sanem stare down at her phone for a moment before she put a hand on her face. He couldn't tell what she was saying to this stranger, but after a short exchange, Sanem smiled and then the man put his hand on her upper back to guide her into the parking garage.
Do I follow them? I feel like I should follow them.
He got out of the car and followed behind into the garage. He saw the two shake hands and Sanem willingly got into the passenger seat before they drove off.
Can held the gold wedding ring that had become his new pendant tight in his grasp. There's trust between us. If something was seriously wrong, she would tell me. The fact that isn't telling me, means she has good reasons.... Right?
