Charlie felt in danger. He had felt spied upon since Harry's disappearance, but this was different, the surveillance was really close. He went home, blocking the door with several spells and looked out the window. Two hooded men in winter coats were talking right outside his house, they pointed to the house several times before walking down the small alley that led to his door. The dragon rider prepared himself for a fight. He was so focused on the men coming to his house that he let a spell of surprise go when he heard a plop behind him. An elf he didn't know had appeared in his living room and was handing him a paper.

"They are now using veritaserum. If they capture you he will be in danger. You need to disappear or be Obliviated...as soon as possible."

Charlie, who had recognized Hermione's handwriting, felt more than ever in danger. He burned the paper, brought some things to him in an accio and asked the elf to take him to the airport. Apparating was too dangerous, they could track his magical signature and trace it back to him. It was better to use muggle transportation or private portkeys. Once at the Bucharest airport, he flew to France, then took a train and finally met Bill at a bar near where Fleur's family lived. He had traveled all night and had time to think and stress. He looked around, afraid that some English wizard would stop him for questioning, afraid that he would be the one to cost Harry's life. He sat down in the least lit corner of the bar, wearing jeans, a hoodie and heavy coat, so he wouldn't attract too much attention among the muggles. He ordered a coffee and waited impatiently for his brother, his leg twitching under the table.

"What's wrong Cha?" asked Bill as he sat down across from him.

"I'm being spied on, Hermione is worried they're going to give me veritaserum. I need to make a decision and for that I need yours portkeys."

Bill made no attempt to dissuade him or to find out more. He passed him two key fobs, one from the Eiffel Tower, the other from the Golden Bridge, then gave him the passwords to activate them. He told him which one to take to get to the Burrow and hugged him, begging him not to do anything stupid.

Charlie left the bar in a hurry and turned on the Eiffel Tower. The trip seemed to last forever and was particularly unpleasant. He landed in a pile of snow at least two meters high, it was a freezing cold and night. He hurried out of there before turning into a snowman and went to knock on the door of the cottage, stressed. He knew that the discussion he was to have with Harry would seal their relationship and he had a bad feeling about it. A feeling that was exacerbated when Andromeda opened the door for him, clearly surprised and uncomfortable to see him there.

"Is Harry here?"

"No. Charlie, what's going on?"

"It's urgent, I need to talk to him."

There was a moment of silence that neither of them tried to fill. Charlie entered, sat down at the witch's invitation, thought about Harry's absence and understood.

"He's with him," he said with a touch of jealousy.

"I'm sorry, Charlie, but yes."

"Do they usually get home late?"

"They should be back in an hour tops I think, but Charlie...I'm not sure it's a good thing you're here when they get back..."

They were interrupted by knocks on the door. Andromeda checked the identity of the visitors and opened the door, six vampires entered including the three Charlie had already met.

"What are you all doing here?" asked the witch.

"Alice had a vision, we mustn't let Jasper in," said the doctor who had been watching over Harry after Bill had injured him, giving Charlie a hard look.
